CHARACTER TYPE

An AMAZON is a dangerous female warrior.  She probably has high dexterity and wears little armor.

An ASSASSIN should have several weapon skills, languages, and a ruthless personality.

A BARBARIAN will wear little armor, have great strength, and dexterity. 

A FIGHTER is the basic strongman.  He would have high strength, several weapon skills, and perhaps unarmed combat.

A MERCENARY is a travelling warrior. A good skill would be horsemanship.  He also needs several weapon skills and languages.

A PRIEST/PRIESTESS may be very good or very bad.  He might also be a wizard or a healer.  A priest may be kind, never using weapons, or carry a sword and hack at anyone who's religious views differ from his.

A RANGER should love the woods.  He is comfortable under the trees, and ready for all situations.  Tracking would be very useful.

A ROGUE lives by his wits.  He should be very smart.

A SCHOLAR is learned.  A scholar can be an asset to an adventuring party.

A THIEF is sneaky, and useful.  He is intelligent and dexterous.  He uses his sword only when necessary and can detect and remove traps.

A TINKER likes mechanical gadgets, and will always be interested in new ones.

A WIZARD has spent all his life studying magic.  It comes naturally to him.  He is good at spells and handicapped at everything else.

RACES

DWARVES ST10, DX6, IQ8 + 8 average less than five feet tall.  They are strong and stocky.  They prefer underground cities, but may live elsewhere.  They can carry double the weight of a man of equal strength.

ELVES ST6, DX10, IQ8 + 8 are slender and uncommon.  They keep to their own cities among the forests.  A few will adventure.  These tend to be less proud and aloof.  Elves run faster than men.

GOBLINS ST6, DX8, IQ10, +6 are small green-skinned humanoids with long heads, pointy ears, and tapering fingers.  They are proud, intelligent, and crafty. A goblin will never go back on his word, even if the promise is forced.  
HALFLINGS ST4, DX12, IQ8 +6  are small, peaceful, and potbelllied.  They have no racial enemies.  Due to their excellent hand-eye coordination, they are excellent with thrown weapons and bows.

HUMANS 8ST, 8DX, 8IQ +8 go everywhere and do everything.  Most other races tolerate humans.  They are very common.

ORCS 8ST, 8DX, 8IQ +8 are tough, greedy, and quarrelsome.  They get along slightly with men, and hardly with any other race.  They have coarse hair and fangs.

REPTILE MEN ST14, DX8, IQ8 +8 are not common.  Because of their fierce features, they are often disliked.  Powerful reptile jaws can be used as a weapon.
