Gourds are hard-shelled relatives of squash and pumpkins.
Gourds are the oldest cultivated plants and for thousands of years they have been used by cultures around the world to make dippers, storage vessels, birdhouses and works of art. Many cultures consider gourds gifts of nature and so are sacred.
