| The Goulburn Lonsdale Warriors have formally begun their 2009 season today retaining their end of season coaching and training staff, signing many of them to new long term deals. CEO Cheyne Webster is ecstatic with the news, and hopes that the stability of the club will remain for some time, "(Season) 2008 was a bit of a landmark year for us - lots of personnel changes and some would say a changing of the guard. We're hoping Craig, Ivan and the crew can deliver a Premiership for the club (in 2009), and hopefully become the first franchise to win two Premierships." Webster claimed that the 2008 title holders the Greco's Eagles "thoroughly deserved their title", and "should be one to look out for in 2009." When asked about his playing group, Webster remained tightlipped about the future of some of his players, "We will look to be aggressive at the Draft table again, and we really want to make every post a winner." Players under the most pressue include stalwarts Ben Ross, Aaron Payne and David Kidwell, all showing signs of perhaps their time at Goulburn being over. Webster stopped short of saying they wouldn't be retained, claiming "When I get back from Taiwan in early March we will sit down and make some very, very tough decisions..." |
