Webmaster Tips -
- Update! Update your pages as much as you can. When I look around I see
pages that haven't been updated since "September 1st, 1999". Do
you Know how long ago that was?! That's ridiculous! I can see if your about
to move your site and you're rebuilding your pages and it took you that long
to rebuild them but you should notify your fans and visitors and tell them
that you're at least in the process of rebuilding. People hate to come to a
Site with old information. Especially since a lot! has happened since then.
- Do Not!! I repeat do Not! Increase/decrease image size so much that you
can't make out what they are. It looks tacky. It's saying "There's no
room So I'm just taking up space with and oversized image that looks
tacky." Do Not!!! Do this with animated images either! Animated images
are made and are specifically made for their shape and size. They become to
pixilated if you do.
- Do Not Post Images on your site that have Another Site's Logo on it. There
are such things as Image editors where people can just type "www.theirurlhere.com"
in an empty corner and it's theirs. Note: Only post
images from other sites if it links to their image archive.
- Have an interesting layout! Frames are a must have! Also, Banners are
great at the top of your page! The first thing a Web Surfer sees when he/she
comes to your site is the top! Not to mention a Splash Page, get a good pic,
A pretty big square that pleases the Web Surfer's eye! Make sure that the
pic started out large and isn't just a image that you made bigger.
- Advertise your site like crazy! Join Webrings, Top Sites,
Affiliates/Networks, and Search Engines! Talk to Webmasters of good sites
and convince them to link to your site!
- Get some Help! Offer jobs! Get some staff to help you out, not many sites
do good with 1 person! Get some staff, 3-10 people helping you out! Also,
have a variety of jobs too! You don't need 5 Artists! Limit your Job
Openings!
- Offer something unique! We don't want a site thats the exact copy of
Another popular site or something. Web Surfers want to see some interaction
too! Offer some stuff like what I like to call "Features" that has
banner service, e-mail hosting, and "Win my Award" etc. etc.!
- Last but not least, stay committed! I usually spend 1-6 Hours each day on
this page, even if not many people come, I'm committed to this site! I don't
care if you spend 15 minutes on it because of mid-terms/finals or whatever,
cause they're important, but what I'm saying is if you have a major problem
in your page, don't just say, "Oh, I'm to lazy to fix that
problem". Look At me! I'm in 9th grade with term papers to hand in but
I still take time to edit my site. I edit it almost everyday! It let's your
visitors know that you still care about the site. Always spend time with
your site!
