| Got Nutz? Poker Tournament Rules | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| The basics: Hey this is meant to be fun first and foremost, and of course we all want to come in first. So lets remember that when it comes to playing, sometimes when big stakes are on the line, people get a little over-excited and we dont want to see anything like that in a friendly game. No smoking, if you smoke then hopefully you can take care of that during a break, or just be able to hold off for the tourney duration. Poker Etiquette: This is a friendly game, but the stakes are higher than normal. So we will be playing with the common poker etiquette. This means during the hand there should be no posturing or revealing of your hand until the hand is over. If the flop comes out KK10, there should be no comments made as to "oh man i had the king" . Even in jest, because of the pot size, it is important to remember that comments such as these can be made to someones advantage. So the good rule of thumb, is that if you are not in the hand, then please keep banter to non-related topics. Also, hands cannot be revealed, unless you are showing the table. I know this might sound anal, but its a common poker rule, if you show 1 person you have to show everyone at the table. Also, for this tourney the hand wins not the call. Meaning if you call a 3 of a kind, but really you have a full house, then it still comes down to the best 5 card hand regardless of a miss call from the player. Breaks: There will be a 15 minute break after 3 hours from tournament start. This will give people the opportunity to use the restroom, make calls, and so on. If you need to get up during the tournament, then the tourney will continue on. So you will not be dealt cards, but if the blinds come to you, then your blind will be put in and you will not be dealt cards. You must be at the table or visible to be dealt cards, this is to maintain the timing of the tournament, and not to hold up the game. Chips: The amount of chips and chip value will be posted during the tournament. Tourney start: When you show up to the tourney, I will have a sign-up sheet with your name on it. The order in which you sign will decide what table you are sitting at. We will have maximum table size of 10 players. I would suggest everyone to show up about 30 minutes before start time, so if you have questions or issues we can solve them and get started on time. Late shows will be considered in the hands. This means that your position will post blinds, but will not be dealt cards. If you do not show after the start of the 3rd blind increase, then your chips will be forfeited and your entry fee will be lost. If you need to cancel, then cancel as soon as possible. After the Monday preceeding the tournament date, any cancelations will forfeit their 5 dollars that were meant to cover costs, but will receive their 20 dollar entry fee. Table Set-up: At tourney start all chips will be on the tables ready for you to begin with. We will deal a preset number of cards to each player at each table. What this means is that if your table has 9 players then a deck of ace thru 9 will be dealt out to the players. Your position at the table will be decided by the card you are dealt. The ace will represent the dealer or on the button, the 2 will be the small blind, and 3 will be the big blind. and so on and so on. There will be 2 decks of cards at each table. The player to the right of the dealer will shuffle and be given option to cut for the current deal. Blinds: The blind schedule will be posted in the room, and will be increased every 20 minutes. I will have an official timer that will sound an alarm when blinds are to go up. The very next hand will have increased blinds when the timer goes off. If your table has just started a hand or is just about to deal, then it will be considered started. This means that if the timer goes off and your tables deal is in any process of beginning (blinds out or not) then it will be considered in play, and the next hand will have the increased blinds. Dealer: Alright none of us are pro dealers, so there are bound to be misdeals and scre-ups. A misdeal is an exposed card that is still in play by the dealer. This does not include burned cards, folded cards, or cards mishandled by a player. If this were to happen, regardless of when the misdeal occurs, then any player in the hand can call for a misdeal. Chips will be returned, and the hand restarted. Rebuys: You can rebuy into the tournament. You must do this before the beginning of the 4th blind increase. You can only rebuy if you are completely out of chips, and before the 4th increase. The rebuy is 20 dollars and you will be given the same amount as the start-up chip amount. Player/table movement: We will have multiple tables playing at the same time. At the very least we will have 2 tables going. Tables will maintain the same number of players or closest numbers there of. In the event that a table has a differential of 2 players, then a player will be moved from the larger table to maintain the same table player level. In the event that there are more then 2 tables, then the first table to end the current hand will be transferring players. How this works is if someone goes all-in and loses and thus throwing the table numbers off by more than 2, then whatever position they are in is the position that will be pulled from the other table. Example: The small blind goes all-in and they have 9 players currently playing. They lose the hand and are out of the tournament. Then the first available table to end the current hand will be moving the person that was just the big blind (because now they are the small blind) I know that seems a bit confusing so please feel free to ask questions. When there are only 10 players left, then all players will move to 1 table and the final table will be started. Im sure there are things that will still come up that I did not cover here, this is our first attempt at running a big game, so hopefully everyone can be patient and understanding. If you have questions or concerns about the make-up of our tourney then please feel free to email me at [email protected] Thanks, Nate |
