Background

a GFG member must have a deep personal interest in both ov thee following areas:

  • thee beauty ov darkness and/or modern Gothic culture
  • Faerie lore
  • additionally, an affinity to one if not several ov thee following:

  • fin-de-síecle artistic movements
  • thee Romantic era
  • an aversion to long formalized ritual
  • a darkly benevolent sense ov humor
  • folklore, especially ghost stories, hauntings, mysteries etc.
  • and be described by the following:

  • an artistic passion for some sphere (even if not talent)
  • a drive for excellence in at least one area ov one's life -
preferrably not being thee best damn fuck-up you can be - !
  • strong individualism
  • a deep, abiding respect for Nature and thee environment
  • a personal code of honor that includes a respect for and tolerance ov other's paths, even if those diverge widely from one's own

  • Group Structure

    :

thee Gothic Faerie Grove considers itself a support group on a spiritual basis, and - whenever possible - on a physical basis as well. Therefore, while supporting solitary members, thee GFG is organized around Hearth groups, whose members meet for ritual, social, and/or artistic reasons. As an expression of that support system, thee GFG will maintain a member's resource directory. This will give the contact info and skills available for all members above First Circle, and for all First Circle members who wish to be listed. (See Resource Directory section for more information).

Membership exists on several levels. These are not meant as any sort of hierarchical structure - second and third level members are in no way meant or to be seen as `superior' to First Circle members. Joining the Second or Third Circle should be done from a wish to become more deeply involved with one's Hearth, and a willingness to serve. Members may qualify to join Circles after a given time, but should never be expected or pressured into so doing.

  • 2nd Circle

    Hearth-Kin

    description

after a season of active involvement with a Hearth, a member may elect to move into thee Second Circle. in addition to the requirements and benefits of First Circle membership, Hearth-Kin are:

  • commiting to participation in a Grove event at least once per season.
  • an event may be defined as social - picnics, camping trips, group outings; as artistic - attending or presenting an artistic/cultural event such as poetry reading, lecture, museum *as a group*; or as sacred - rituals, pilgrammage to sacred sites, Veilwork. It is conceivable - perhaps ideal - that a single event could fall into all three categories.

solitary members wishing to move to Second Circle may instead donate a regular service to thee Grove. Possible solitary services could include

  • work on Grove newsletter
  • answering official correspondence
  • helping maintain Grove webpages

  • requirements

  • 18 years of age or over
  • in accord with thee Gothik Faerie Grove beliefs
Second Circle members may not miss more than one seaon's event. We realise life can often intrude on best-laid plans. however, if life is preventing you from fully taking on Second Circle duties, you will be expected to function only at First Circle level until such time as you are ready and able to resume a deeper commitment to thee Hearth. By the principle of energie balancing, one should neither expect nor demand Second Circle benefits if not meeting Second Circle requirements. Solitary Second Circle members will make an arrangement with the Council as to their equivalent donation. Non-completion of this donation would have the same result as missing two seasons events.
  • participation in planning, funding, and staffing events
  • affiliation with a Craft Fellowship
Craft Fellowships may be considered special interest groups or guilds. Proposed Fellowships include:
  • Myst-Walker
  • Healer
  • Troubador
  • Artisans
  • Guardian
  • Mountebanks
  • Scribe
  • Akashics
  • (More information may eventually be found in thee Craft Fellowship section).
  • listed in thee member resource directory
(As detailed in the member resource section), Second Circle members must be listed, but are not required to provide unpaid services to other members, except in exchange for resource bank credits. It is to be hoped that any services rendered for a fee would be done so at a rate that is fair and equitable to both parties.

    benefits

    all First Circle benefits, plus:

  • notified of and welcome at all private Hearth functions
  • may make nominations to Tatiana's Court (a 'Hall of Fame' of those who've inspired us)
  • an automatic credit (in an amount to be determined) with the member resource bank
this credit is maintained if not used; regardless of past credit expenditure, the Second Circle credit is renewed each year on their dedication day. Long-term Second Circle members may acquire a high credit total this way; which is compensation for the otherwise unpaid work they have given the Hearth.
  • feted once a year by thee Hearth (such as: birthday, dedicant day, anniversaries etc)
Each hearth must develop a method ov showing appreciation to Second Circle members on `their' day that is within thee Hearth's means. This may include, but is not limited to, throwing a party, fixing them a special dinner, gift certificates, performing a needed service for free etc. Anything that will constitute both a perk and a thank-you - we care that you care, and let's not forget that's what makes us Kin!
