| "Hey... wake up," Daniel's voice whispered in her ear. "Are you alright?" She opened one eyed a bit, then shot up really fast looking around. "Where are w-OW!" "Sit down! You shoudln't be up. You... sprained your ankle." "No, really!?" She grabbed her ankle in pain. "Like i can't tell from from the freakin' mountain sticking out of the side of my leg!?" Daniel grew silent and still. "I'm sorry" she said as she dropped herself hard on the floor, as though nothing mattered anymore; It was all wrong and nothing could be fixed. "It's ok... These idiots are the problem. They threw us in here talking some shit about shop lifting and Hostility... aggresivness and injury." "You gotta be kidding me..." "These bars look real don't they? I Told them but they wouldn't listen." He looked at her hold her ankle and swing front to back repeatedly. "You know... heh... you really busted that cop's nose well, man. "What do you mean "I busted that cop's nose really well?" "When you were fighting with him in the stairway; you jabbed him in the face really hard. Don't you remember?" She looked at the floor. "No..." Daniel turned around and held on the bars. He looked side to side, at the broken-springed bunkbeds covered by old covers. The other side was a toilet he wasn't thinking of using and time soon. "That cop knows you, Daniel. I remember him when we came to see you." "I know... that's why he doesn't believe me... Fuck!" He banged his head on the bars, stood still for a minute and kicked the bars a few times. Pandora just sat there in the back, not saying anything, not knowing what to say. "Hey! Be quiet in there! a guard shouted. "But we didn't DO anything, man!" He backed away and sat beside Pandora. "Dammit... mom's gonna freak out when she hears about this..." "But you di--" "Who cares if i didn't do anything?? I told her i wouldn't get in shit... and she'll STILL need to come down here again." He looked at her, and she looked back at him. For some reason, all of a sudden he had eyes locked on hers and didn't look away. She turned to her leg out of awkwardness and started rubbing it. "How long have i been out?..." "Just about a quarter of an hour or so. This place wasn't too far from the terminus. Your cop didn't try waking you up because of the blow to the head you gave him, and neither did i because you woulca been conscious and in more pain... These guys won't even give me ice for you because they're SO LAZY AND SEL--" "Hey, watch your mouth kid. Here's some ice." Daniel got up and grabbed the package of ice held together by thick pieces of brown paper. He sat back down beside Pandora and handed it to her. "Im... so tired of all this crap today...", she started. "What the heck just happened!? I wake up to go to another daily routine job; no. I get one of my best friends sent to the hospital, i sprain my ankle, and we get arrested by these cops for something we didn't do. This is--" "It'll be ok... It'll all get sorted out soon. Talking with them doesn't seem to do anything... We have to wait until they go through some papers and people and confess about making a mistake... or something." She laid back against the wall and wore a frown. "...What exactly happened to Vinny?" Daniel paused, looked ahead without focusing on anything, then took off his jacket, folded it, and put it under Pandora's sore foot with the ice to help the swelling. He sat beside her and lay back. "He... Mike and Vinny were fooling around outside-- nothing serious-- and... you remember those guys from the alley?" Pan gave a quick bad look as an affirmation. "As stupid as they are, they still held a grudge about what happaned a couple of weeks ago." "Are they fuckin' dense!? THEY'RE the ones who started it. Ok, so Vinny had to end it badly... but he had to defend us!" "I know... I was told they pushed him around a bit... threw him on the floor at one point and started kicking him..." He turned to his friend which was looking the other way, not wanting to show her face. "Mike was around the corner and couldn't just stand there and do nothing... he did or said something offensive and two guys went after him... but the other one stayed back with Vinny. Now remember; these guys are twice his size. He slowly got back up and was pushed into the street, where a car went flying by... and went straight through him..." There was a terrible silence in the room. "God... how the FUCK can they call them humans!!!" She threw herself in Daniel's grasp, crying more than before. He hugged her, telling her comforting things, trying to make the pain go away. "It'll be fine... Vinny's strong,, he'll make it through. Come on... Mike knows these guys and thinks the driver of the car was one of the gang... they're after them to get them" "And i'll make sure of that..." she promised. The crying stopped after a while, but the sniffling remained. "You think he'll be fine?" she asked. "I think. I hope so." "Oh dear spirit, give him the strength to go on... and bring upon a miracle..." she started whispering to the air. "What?" She looked at him for a deep second and her face lit up. Daniel looked confused. "Wait... i can help him! Daniel... can you give me that rock over there?" she pointed to the corner of the room. Daniel passed it on to her, and she kneeled down on her knees and started to draw a big circle around her, mumbling words that made not much sense to Daniel. She then put the ice package at one point on the line of the circle, and the rock at another point. "Ahhh... so you're going to do a spel??? oh sure... that's gonna help..." "Hey! Watch what you say. This isn't like some of those stupid movies that you watch." "If you say so..." She held her talisman worn around her neck with great passion. "Ok... so i don't have all the things usually used... but what's really important is willpower and pure devotion right now. " She stopped and looked at him. "K... i'll just sit in back here quietly while you do your stuff. With what you say,, hopefully it'll work..." Time passed and Pandora worked her magick as Daniel watched her half skeptically. Five hours or so later, a guard released them from the cell and were apologized to by the two policemen at the front office. The first warned him to not get into anymore trouble. Daniel gave him a look. Pan found herself lucky to not have gotten in big trouble for punching a cop in the face, but then again, it was the cop's fault that she had a twisted ankle. So they left it at that; equality. NEXT PAGE |
