Returning Home (By: gothikyoukai)
A tall figure cloaked in black slowly made thier way up the long winding path of an old castle. It was stormy, and anyone would be crazy to venture out in it. The figure stopped before the first gate of the castle, which was about half way up the slope. The figure raised his/her head looking up at the impposing gates. It was unclear as to why this figure was here at this castle, when no one else dared go near. The villagers in the human villages near by all feared this castle, for it once belonged to a great and powerful demon family. The castle now lifeless and cold, was once vibrant a full of life.
The figure reached up to touch the large padlock. A feminine, almost delacte looking, clawed hand traced the symbols of the lock. This lock was different from others as there was no key hole, only intricate archaic symbols. Two dragons spun around the lock, large chains attached by the collers around the dragons necks. the figured continued to trace the symbols with a clawed finger, before retracting his/her hand. Underneath his/her cloak the figured took a claw, pressing it into the pad of his/her finger. He/She applied enough pressure to make a small slit. Reaching up he/she once again traced the symbols. The symbols began to glow as his/her blood was absorbed by the lock. The dragons eyes began to glow red as they came to life. The dragons twisted around the lock until they were completely on opposite sides. A line split down the middle of the lock. the figure pushed open one of the doors of the gate, closing it behind him/her. The lock sealed behind him/her sealing him/her in.
The figure continued up the old unkept path. The further the figure went the more over grown the path became. This did not bother the figure as he/she continued up the winding path until he/she got to the main gates of the castle. These gates were more fortifed and they were not just bars, so nothing could be seen of the courtyard inside. The figure preformed the same task with the lock on this door before pushing the gate open. Just as the gate before, the lock sealed shut behind the figure. The figure made his/her way up the old broken cobblestone path, through the over grown courtyard. He/She walked up the old stone steps, which led to the front door. He/She stopped at the door staring at the lock that sealed the door closed. The figure seemingly frowned, this lock was different from the others. The figure realized that he/she would not be able to do the same thing with the other locks, so he/she resorted to melting the lock from the door. The figure held up a clawed hand the claws glowing a red hot color radiating an emense heat. The figure placed his/her clawed hand on the lock watching as it melted off of the door. The figure pushed on one of the massive doors with one hand. At first the door did not budge, but slowly it began to move. The creaking of rusted unused bolts could be heard as the figure pushed the door open far enough to get into the castle. The figure quickly entered closing the massive door bedind him/her.
Inside it was as dark and gloomy looking as ouside, with one difference, it was dry. The figure sighed softly in relief, reaching up he/she grabbed the hood of thier cloak. The figure pulled the hood down, even though it was dark the figures features were clear. The figure was a female. It was still too dark to make out what she looked like. her cloths dripped with water as she walked forward. She undid her cloak allowing it to drop to the floor. The soft sound of claws clicking against marble could be heard as she made her way forward through the massive entry hall. She continued moving straight forward into what appeared to be a lounge of sorts. She moved over to the fire place, checking for wood. She once again sighed in relief when she found that there was indeed a small amount left in the hearth. Flicking her claws, she created a small flame. Placing the flame over the small amount of wood she started a fire. She looked to the wood box next to the fire place, smiling gratefully when she found that it was full. She grabbed enough logs tossing them into the hearth. In no time she had a roaring fire warming the room and giving some light. She frowned once again as she fingered her soaked hakama and gi. She sighed once more as she began to untie the sash that held her hakama up and her gi closed. She then layed them out on the marble directly infront of the fire place to dry them out. She shivered rubbing her wet furr covered arms.
Now that there was some light it was easier to see what she looked like. She was quiet short only standing at five feet two inches. Despite her size, it was no mistake that she was a beauty and powerful aswell. Instead of skin, her body was covered in silky soft raven colored fur. Markings of blood red stood out against her fur. The markings were strips. She had two stripes on each cheek, one stripe on each ear, three strips on her upper and lower arms and one stripe winding down each of her hips. Another thing that was different was she didn't have normal human ears, but cat ears instead. A long elegant tail wrapped around her waist as she shivered and sneezed. Long matted silver hair cascaded down her back and aluring silver eyes took in her surroundings. She also didn't have normal legs. Her legs were like the hind legs of a cat, with delecate but deadly looking paws. She sneezed again as she looked around finding a blanket, she grabbed it quickly wrapping it around herself. She then made herself comfy on the western style couch. Soon she was warm, dry and drifting off to sleep.
The next morning she awoke with a start, silver eyes looking around for any type of intruder. She frowned and quickly dressed, her ears flicking and swiveling around for any sounds. 'This castle is supposed to be empty,' she thought as she tied the sash tight and began to walk forward. She felt that she was not alone in the old castle as she walked back out into the entry hall, her clawed paws clicking against the marble. She looked around warily, pushing her senses to their limit. Then she heard it, the soft scuffling sound of paws against marble. She took off in the direction of sound; quickly navigating through the winding halls untill she reached the west wing. She stopped at the doors pausing a she stared up at them. Carved into the doors was a massive saber cat locked in battle with a dragon. For a moment she heard a voice in her head as she remember something from long ago.
=flashback=
"Hitomi, I want you to promise me something," said a voice.
"What papa?" asked a little girl's in reply.
"That no matter what you will never pass through these doors, or any other that leads into the west wing."
"Why?"
=end flash back=
The female shook her head slightly, looking down, she whispered something. "I'm sorry papa." She looked back up, a look of resolution on her face she reached up once more placing her hand on the door she pushed it open. slowly Hitomi entered the corridor her ears twitching. Cautiously she moved forward, her ears twtching, as she listened for any threat. she took in the scents around her, the smell of must no longer bothering her. Hitomi frowned slightly, she could smell something, but she couldn't make out what it was. She found this unusual, as all other scents had faded from the castle after the century or two of disuse. Slowly she made her way down the corridor following the faint scent and noise. The noise got louder the further into the west wing she went. After about a few minutes of walking in the semi dark corridors she found some light coming in through a Broken door just around the corner. This was where the sound was coming from and the scent was strongest. She turned the corner and slowly made her way towards the door. She paused when she reached the door uncertian if she should go forward or not. She seemed to stand there forever in indesicion, but finally made up her mind and moved forward. Reaching the door she pushed it open eeping softly when what was left of the door came crashing down. She stopped and strained her ears for any noise, her ears twitching when she caught a soft sound. She moved forward out into what appeared to be an overgrown courtyard. Her eyes widened when she saw what was directly in the middle of this couryard. It was a dragon demon.
The dragon demon was female and appeared to be sleeping. Its scales gleamed like soft emeralds in the light , and its dark indigo mane shone almost dimmly. Hitomi moved forward her ears straining for any sound. The closer she got to the dragon the more she could see. The Dragon had large feathered wings, the feathers a mix of inigo and black. Sharp deadly talon like claws extended from the dragons paws. Around the dragons neck was a large black leather collar with silver designs sewn into it. Hanging from the front of the coller was a rounded indigo colored crystal. As Hitomi looked at the dragon, she realized that something missing. This something was the dragon's heartbeat. The mighty dragoness was dead. Hitomi frowned and moved forward to examine the corpse and found that the dragon had multiple lacerations along its underside. 'These wounds must be the cause for this poor things death,' thought Hitomi as she looked around sensing that there was another being somewhere in the courtyard. She walked slowly towards where she heard a soft wimper and the faint beating of a heart. Hitomi pushed the brush aside to reveal a small dragon pup. Her eyes widened as she took in the sight before her. The pup was small, yes, but because of lack of food the poor thing looked even smaller its feathered wings looked almost withered and its scales and mane were a mess. She picked up the dragon pup carefully and turned towards what she knew to be its mother. She looked sadly at the beautiful creature."I will return to give you a proper funeral," she said as she then turned and left the courtyard. As she walked she looked down at the pup to find two large amethyst eyes staring up at her. She smiled and gently hugged the pup."Hello little one, my name is Hitomi," she said,"I promise that I will take care of you."
Weeks after Hitomi found the dead dragoness and the pup, the castle was looking much more livable. The grounds were clean of all weeds and overgrowth were gone. The inside was dusted and cleaned, many of the rooms were looking much more lively. Hitomi was currently sitting in the fields behind the castle holding a now healthy and full of life dragon pup. She was currently laughing and trying to reclaim her tail from the playful dragon pup. She smiled the dragon pup let go of her tail and pounced her before running off through the tall grass jumping and flapping its wings. Hitomi stood and followed after the draon pup laughing. She grinned as she ran up and tackled the pup hugging it close to her. She sighed happily allowing the pup to chew on her tail as she looked back towards the castle. This was once her home many years ago and it was her home still. As Hitomi though about this she said softly to the wind,"I'm finally home papa."
