The Silver Mists wolfpack was formed when many wolves decided that life in the Night Winds wolfpack had grown too complicated after the disappearance of alpha MoOnPaW. The vision of a new and better pack began to grow in the minds of many of these wolves, until it was given a name by Alicorn. RebellionWlf and SnowWolf founded a new pack, using the name Alicorn had come up with, and when Alicorn discovered this, she was made alpha. These three wolves formed the first alpha trio.

The clearing boomed at first, with many members coming from the Night Winds pack and other places throughout the forest. It didn't last, because sadly, some wolves were not as loyal as we thought they would be. Many left. Others couldn't be online as much, and the clearing was next to inactive for a time. However, we slowly began to make a comeback after many weeks.

Meanwhile, RavenWulf, alpha of the Shadow Runners at the time, falsely accused nearly all of our members of certain crimes, slandering the entire pack on his website. This caused many problems. We managed to straighten out many of the lies, but all of the slandering was not gone until the website disappeared. The pack changed it's name and regrouped twice, erasing their ban list, making the Silver Mists at peace with all packs.

Pups were born, and pups grew to adulthood, claiming ranks. Pups were adopted, and relatives were claimed. Slowly the pack began to attract new members. We developed ceremonies and customs characteristic to only our pack. The clearing grew more and more crowded, and the wolves grew closer and closer together.

Unfortunately, all things must come to an end, and the members began to grow apart. Many members quit the pack to join others, and some even came back to purposefully cause problems. Some simply disappeared, and others were rarely around (OOC complications). Eventually, there was only arguing, until at last, the pack disbanded.

Two years later, Alicorn returned to the forest and sought out her old pack mates after wandering alone blaming herself. The first she found was ShadowWlf, who immediately resumed his place at her side as Beta. Several other former members followed soon after, including the children of Alicorn and her former mate StoneWolf. Eventually, we located almost all of our old pack members, though some had joined other packs (or left wolf RP) and could not return. It was a dream come true, a spring of new beginnings.

More and more new faces began to appear in the clearing. As one anonymous non-member said, "Everyone just really likes how peaceful and pleasant SM really is. It's a small pack, but a very happy pack that's active." All of this was more than the Silver Mists had hoped for. They had now about ten or so packmates, but the future held much more for them. More old members returned, such as RedWolfie's children and FirE^PawS' children. The pack began attracting new members as well, hoping now that they could one day be again what they once were. By the end of summer, the pack had tripled in size and was thriving.

It was just before that time that Yenko came to the pack and was welcomed. He left several times to visit his birth pack, then after his third visit, a member followed him back to Mysticia. He was killed in the Star Falls clearing, much to our dismay, and his death was avenged by FirE^PawS, who later left the pack along with Solara due to disputes. The pack mourned the loss but forgot their sorrow at the arrival of the Crescent Moons. The pack, led by Apolla, decided to settle on Mysticia, and the Silver Mists were glad to share their home with their new sister pack. A few pups, whose parents had been murdered, found their way to Mysticia, bringing laughter again to the clearing.

The joy was not to last however. CinderPaws then began having troubles with her mate and began having an, eventually going so far as to falsely accuse her mate of raping her. As a result, CinderPaws left the pack, and her mate anulled their bond. She went to the Crescent Moons pack at first but was later banished for rudeness. The wolf she loved, Strauss, no longer wanted to be with her, and her family had lost faith in her. She eventually killed herself as a result, and the pack mourned her death with much sorrow.

Slowly, the Silver Mists began to get over the death of their former Gamma. All was going well, until the arrival of the Thunder Howls. This was the pack responsible for the murder of their new pups' parents and of Yenko, and this pack blamed the Silver Mists for "stealing" their pups and avenging Yenko's death on one of their own. They watched the sandbar until they found out its exact location, then the scouts reported to the Alphas that they had found a paradise. The pack decided to move to Mysticia and take over the island as their own, to destroy the Silver Mists.

Alicorn refused to be fearful of these newcomers. The Silver Mists and Crescent Moons worked together to fight against them. Alicorn arranged a rescue party to retrieve the captured siblings of their new pup members, which did not go over well with the Thunder Howls. They returned to inform the Silver Mists not to rejoice for too long, for death was coming to them all. Undaunted, the pack continued on with life as usual, keeping an eye on the Thunder Howls. Not longer after, the Crescent Moons and the Silver Mists merged to become one and further combine their efforts.

As October approached, reform became necessary. A few wolves left to search the forest for former Silver Mists and bring them home, and others had to take LOAs for OOC reasons. New leadership was chosen at the beginning of October and again at October's end. When the reform was complete, Katara stood as Alpha female beside Alicorn once again. Another female pair, Apolla and Sayna, took over the Beta positions. Lenne was promoted to Gamma female, while Whitewinds remained Gamma male. The pack plans to reform the leadership positions once again, when more males are available for such positions.

As time progressed, the cowardly Thunder Howls began to attack lone wolves in the forest. Among those assaulted were Raika and Alicorn, who both survived; CrystalStar, however, was not so lucky and lost her life to the Thunder Howls. Added to the sorrow of these attacks was a harsh winter, which brought the deaths of a pup Lyanesse and beloved elder HowlingMoon. As attacks became more frequent, more Thunder Howls died, and more Silver Mists were seriously injured. The council warned all wolves to stay close to the clearing and not to go astray alone, to safeguard them from attack by our arch enemies. A few members left to find a home that's peaceful, as Mysticia once was.

On January 4, 2005, after a pack hunt, the Thunder Howls attacked the clearing with full force. The Silver Mists fought hard, and the Thunder Howls suffered many casualties. When the fighting ended, eleven Thunder Howls and three Silver Mists lay dead. The Silver Mists had prevailed, but it was an empty victory. MoonFire died at the paws of Kali, Alpha of the Thunder Howls, and Kindar died trying to protect her. Katara avenged her daughter's death and suffered serious injuries. Rubyna was fatally injured while protecting Alicorn, who was badly wounded in the battle. Many others were wounded, though they will eventually recover. The Silver Mists sadly buried their dead in Purple Valley, and several Sweet Mystics aided us in giving the bodies of the Thunder Howls to the sea. The remaining Thunder Howls packmates left Mysticia, leaving the Silver Mists to mourn in peace.

Attendance in our clearing then began to dwindle, as people were busy with their OOC lives. Only a few wolves could actually be present on a daily basis, and many could hardly even attend the pack meetings. Things seemed to be going downhill. It was at this time that Alicorn and Katara, Alpha females, met Alyth^, the Alpha female of Moon Valley, a neighboring pack of smaller size. The three females became very good friends over the weeks, and they each expressed concerns to each other about their respective packs. Out of these conversations, the decision was made to ask the packs if they would be willing to merge. Pack meetings were held at each pack, and everyone agreed that a merger would be in both packs' best interests. On February 1, 2005, the members of the Moon Valley pack became Silver Mists packmates. Alyth^ became Beta female, and the other packmates began training for their own chosen ranks. Apolla was demoted to Gamma, and Lenne--who had been wanting to step down--was demoted to Caretaker, the rank she truly desired. The two packs joined forces, hoping that in time they would become one big family.

As winter came to an end, both Apolla and Riverwind gave birth. This new life was the first sign that spring was approaching. The sound of pups playing within the clearing was a refreshing relief from the cold silence of the harsh winter. Unfortunately, the joy of new life was soon followed by the sorrow of death. Tsurara and PenDragon, while expecting their own first litter, sadly drowned in the sea while crossing the sandbar. Their bodies washed ashore and were buried in the Purple Valley. Then, just two days later, FirE^PawS died bravely protecting Alyth^, who was badly injured, from a cougar. The pack mourned their deaths but knew that it was more important to focus on caring for new life than mourning the loss of life. Thus they put their misery behind them and focused all attention on the health and well-being of newly-born pups and expecting females.

With the loss of her daughter just behind her and having lived through so much, Alicorn felt it was time that she retire to elder. She pronounced Apolla her successor and began the final stage of training her. Apolla became Acting Alpha on April 5, 2005, at which point Alicorn became Acting Elder. The council chose Shanandoah to succeed Apolla as Gamma, and on that day, Shanandoah became Acting Gamma. Not long after, Alyth^ decided to leave the pack to join her mate, Vin, at the Northern Lights pack. Whitewinds thus became Acting Beta, and Phantom was promoted to Acting Gamma. Two weeks later, Apolla became Alpha, and Alicorn retired to Elder. Shanandoah became Gamma, officially, as well. The pack decided that Whitewinds should remain Gamma and then promoted Shanandoah to Acting Beta, just a week after her promotion to Gamma. Phantom completed his training and became Gamma in her stead. Sayna became Acting Alpha on April 25, while Katara was caring for her newborn pups. Katara stepped down on May 7 to focus on motherhood, and the council elected Alicorn to be Alpha until a replacement could be trained.

The loss of Katara as Alpha was not the only misfortune that the pack faced that spring. The changes within the pack, while based on majority vote, did not make everyone happy. First to leave was MoonHowl, a Sentinel, who felt that Apolla was not fit to be Alpha, though the pack feels that he left simply because he'd been scolded for breaking rules. He went so far as to threaten the pack and insult Apolla and was banished as a result due to his disrespectful behavior. Octoberus, Sayna, and Zenji left the pack just a week later, each feeling that Sayna should have been promoted to Alpha over Apolla. Zenji and Octoberus were banished not long after for showing profound disrespect. On May 24, 2005, a day after their departure, the pack elected Phantom to be the new Beta male and Riverwind to be the new Gamma female. After a spring of many changes, the ranks stood thus: Apolla and Alicorn as Alpha females, Shanandoah and Phantom as the Beta pair, and Whitewinds and Riverwind Tamashii as the Gamma pair. This was not the end of the losses the pack would incur that summer, for as Whitewinds began to neglect his duties, he was demoted to packmate and then left the pack. His mate and pups followed him, and at that time, Kalari and GhostWolf were elected to be the new Gammas.

In August of 2005, things began to look up as fall approached. Snow^Whisper, who had demoted herself to packmate after failing to protecet her loved ones during an attack, became more active within the clearing and, having finally forgiven herself, became Head Sentinel once more. Several wolves returned from short leaves of abscense, and both GrizzlyPaws and RebelWolf returned from their extended LOAs. Grizzly immediately began training for Sentinel. Being that he is now six years old, RebelWolf was promptly made an Elder. Phantom stepped down to Shaman, feeling that he did not have enough time to adequately fulfill the duties of the rank of Beta. The council elected Kalari to begin training to replace him as Beta, and since RebelWolf had returned, they chose him to train to replace her as Gamma. Days later, Katara returned from a long LOA, and the Second Alpha Trio was created. Alicorn would continue to be Alpha until things were back to normal, until Katara & Apolla got back into the swing of things, and until Katara could be around more often. Despite all of the changes that had occured in the past months, the pack remained stable and even began to grow again, as several new wolves entered assessment. Once again, the sun shone on the Silver Mists.

Roland returned briefly and pledged himself once more, then disappeared again. The Alphas each had to take very long LOAs, so all three were demoted. Alicorn, who could be around more often than the others, became the Beta, while Katara and Apolla became packmates for a while. Shanandoah and Kalari were elected the new Alphas, and Ghostwolf became the new Beta beside Alicorn. Lenne remained Gamma, and GrizzlyPaws was chosen to be Gamma alongside her, though she has not yet accepted the position.

Unfortunately the chaos in the hierarchy did not end there. GrizzlyPaws and Apolla both left the pack, vacating positions. In January of 2006, the ranks were as follows: Alphas were Shanandoah and Lenne, Betas were Alicorn and Ghost_Wolf, and the Gammas were Kahi and Grey_Wolf. Many members were removed for inactivity, and some had to take extended LOAs. Kalari returned to her home, along with long-time Honored Guest Silverlune, spirit sister of Alicorn. Alicorn finally retired to Elder, leaving Silverlune in her place as Beta. Kalari was voted Gamma, and Grey_Wolf was demoted down to Head Sentinel. Grey_Wolf eventually left. Lenne was demoted. Silverlune was made Alpha and then left. Shanandoah soon after had to stepdown to packmate, and Kalari became Alpha in her place. MoonDreamer and Katara both returned and were made Betas. Many things changed, such as the hierarchy structure, which was amended to be more suitable for a small pack which Silver Mists had become. It was a sort of renaissance time for the pack.

Our numbers dwindled in the winter, and many things changed during the cold season. Spring, however, brought revival for our pack. Lenne gave birth to three girl pups. The current alphas went travelling far and wide, searching the forest for lone wolves in need of a pack. One by one, in came the outcasts, the lonely and downtrodden. In just a few days, 15 new wolves became pledges and soon entered assessment. Having just downsized hierarchy and lost many members, the pack was delighted to meet all of these newcomers, happy to have activity in the clearing again. It seemed that perhaps all of the changes in the hierarchy may, even so soon, need to be turned over, which of course would be a hassel but a welcome one. Perhaps summer would bring joy after all.

Soon enough things began to change again, Kalari remained as Alpha but welcomed Kahi to stand by her side. The Silver Mists welcomed more newcomers into the Clearing, some of which still remain and show their loyalty and devotion to the pack. Xarae began training for Guardianess but later began training for the rank of Beta as the pack realized she was fit to hold the rank. Tragady struck the pack when the body of Kahi, Alpha Silver Mist was found by Kalari in the forest. A meeting was held and on October 16th, 2006 Xarae took the rank of Alpha alongside Kalari. The pack was falling and many members didn't find the time to be in the Clearing. Kalari decided to leave the pack on January 2nd, allowing Flames to take her position.

The Silver Mists were once one of the larger and more active packs in the forest, but in early 2007, the pack disbanded for personal reasons of the members. Roughly a year later, the first wolves returned home: Katara, Apolla, Alicorn, and Sapphira. ShadowWlf, MoonDreamer, and Shanandoah soon followed. They ran together as long as they could, before parting ways once again later that year. In September of 2009, several members returned home again, to run together once more.

Slowly the pack is rebuilding itself and proving once again that the heart of the Silver Mists will live on forever, that dreams do come true, and love conquers all. We will face the future, unafraid, and overcome any obstacles in our way--as we always have done. No matter what happens, in time, we will always rise again, as strong as ever. The Silver Mists do not die and are not born again; they are eternal, forever. A pack is a family, and family lives on whether the members are running together or apart.
