This page is about the precautions one might need to do astral projection safely and to have an enjoyable experience on the astral plane:
Emotional State:
One  thing that can have a deep effect on having an OBE is the emotional state you are in. You generally need to be in a healthy state of mind to have a successful OBE. Trying to astrally project whilst you are heavily depressed is something I would not recommend. It is likely that you will not be able to achieve an OBE as you will probably find it very hard to relax properly whne you have a lot of stress on your mind. So it is best to try projection when you are calm and sound.

Positioning:

You must find a comfortable position before attempting astral projection. Try different relaxed positions that you are still comfortable with over a long period of time. Most people prefer to either lie down or choose a sitting position. It is said by many though that your spine should be straight during the projection because it will allow your energy to flow completely throughout your body (and your chakras).

Breathing:
Proper breathing is important for astral projection. You shoudl focuse on your breathing for a few seconds. If you find yourself breathing through your chest or your shoulders are rising and falling then you are not breathing correctly. Proper breathing should be coming from your diaphragm. Try out different breathing patterns for yourself and see which you are most comfortable with and what works best. Experimentation is the key to finding this.

Protective Measures:
There are several protective measures you can do to keep your mind at peace whilst you project. A simple prayer asking for protection is a common safety measure taken. You could ask your spirit guides to aid you too. Some even cast spells of protection upon themselves to help. Another method is visualising a protective barrier around your physical and astral body, or surrounding yourself in a pillar of protective light. Taking precautions like these often prove to be effective.

Food:
Just a quick pointer here and that is eating heavy foods such as steak and chips etc will not let your stomach be able to 'stomach' an OBE, so it is advisable you eat light foods like rice or wheat if you intend on attempting astral projection, and it's good to eat them too after you've had a successful OBE too.
