Cainites, as we are, do not frighten easily, if at all. Weve battled and won over death, though her bony pale fingers linger upon our cold flesh. But, the Malkavians frighten even the most stalwart of us all. No matter where they go, they leave a trail of madness behind them like the wake of a ship tearing across the sea.
To the minds of many, insanity is the most frightening thing. Those touched either bear the mark of Satan, they say, or are touched by God. Where they come up with that we know not; must have been a Malkavian who said it. Which ever it is, Cainite lore does hint that they are touched in some manner.
As with all the clans, the older Malkavians, the mad ones claim that Malkav was the favoured childe of Caine, our Dark Father. Its said that Caine himself wanted to know more, so he strove for the knowledge, no matter how far he had to travel to get it. His childer mimicked him. Now one would think that because Saulot had a reputation for learning and uncovering small secrets here and there, would have in fact been the one to bring Caine that which he most sought after. No. It was Malkav according to the mad ones, who brought that knowledge to his sire, thats when they say Caine gifted the clan with insanity. They, however, call it the Sight.
The clan seems to have a range a variety if you will of gentle souls touched by madness, from the quiet one in the corner to the derranged killer who systematically discets his pray, alive. If it wasnt for the common trait they all share, some might not even view them as a clan at all, but its Malkavs curse they carry thus making them recognizable in these strange bewildering nights. Malkavians have been seers in Cainite courts for centuries and will continue to be, for now. Many Cainites will sit down and have lengthy conversations and even dine with them, albeit from the other side of the dining table.
To this day Malkavians come and go out of Cainte society. They are fools, seers, jesters and more. They have a purpose here even if it does seem to drive us to distraction. No matter where they go, they have an odd influence on their surroundings. They play pranks on allies and enemies alike, some of them really can be quite funny. We think, or at least I think, there is a method to their maddness and their pranks, only time will tell for sure.Sobriquet: Madmen
