GREG RUCKA PLANS DETECTIVE
----------------------------
Greg Rucka told the Continuum web-site that he is
"trying to do a crime novel" as he takes over as the regular writer
of DC Comics' Detective Comics early next year. Rucka outlined his plans for
the oldest Batman title, including an expansion to 30 pages of story each
month.
"The very first issue is going to be sort of a
prologue, as will all the January issues of the Bat-books," Rucka said.
"Following that, 30 pages each month, they're going to be, ideally if I
can pull this off, a novel about how the different organized crime factions
come back to Gotham The ultimate goal of this is (that) by May, when this is
all done and shaken out, you will have a baseline of crime in Gotham."
BATMAN'S WAR ON CRIME
-----------------------
Paul Dini's Batman: War on Crime will ship in
mid-November (see below as a 64-page, "treasury" sized book, completely
painted by Alex Ross.
"It's very moving story, a very human story. It sort
of examines why Batman fights crime, why he continues to fight crime. In
contrast to Superman trying to save the whole entire planet, Batman is trying
to save one person
HARLEY RE-PRINTS
----------------
DC Comics has announced that it is going back to press
for a second printing of the Batman: Harley Quinn Prestige Format one-shot.
"The debut of the popular Harley Quinn character in
DC continuity has proven to be extremely popular with fans, with retailers
selling out of the stand-alone title almost as soon as they put it on the
shelves," said Bob Wayne, DC's vice-president - direct sales. "With
this reprint, they'll have copies of Harley's 'No Man's Land' debut to sell to
the latecomers."
The second printing of Batman: Harley Quinn will be
identical to the first except for a different UPC code on the cover and a
change in the indicia. Copies will arrive in stores Sept. 1.

events, as an array of villains that includes Ra's al Ghul, Catwoman, the
Penguin, and dozens of enigmatic mercenaries comes looking to take possession
of the ancient, seemingly unremarkable drinking bowl now in the Dark Knight's
hands. Could this prize be the legendary Holy Grail? And if it is, can even its
miraculous qualities keep Batman alive as the war to possess it builds to a

Grail? (96 pages, hardcover, $24.95, ships on Nov. 24.)
BATMAN: DARK VICTORY #2

needs answers before another victim falls. (32 pages, $2.95, ships on Nov. 17.)
BATMAN: DOA
Written and illustrated by Bob Hall; cover by Hall.
Infected with a lethal virus created by a scientist hired

24 hours left to live ... precious little time to find a cure and rescue a
kidnapped little girl whose life is on the same timetable. As the terrorist
group that has taken the girl hides from the Dark Knight's search, Batman finds
that the virus is taking its toll on his mind as well as his body. Fighting his
way through pain and delirium, Batman turns all his personal resources to
saving the kidnap victim and finding a cure before time runs out for them both.

Written by Steve Englehart and Len Wein; art by Marshall
Rogers, Walter Simonson, Terry Austin, Al Milgrom, and Dick Giordano; cover by
Rogers and Austin.
Reprinting Detective Comics #469-479, Batman: Strange
Apparitions finds the Dark Knight's relationship with Gotham City's government
-- presided over by the corrupt "Bosss" Rupert Thorne -- at an
all-time low. With little help from the GCPD, Batman faces an array of
incredible foes, including Dr. Phosphorus (in his first appearance), the Joker,
Clayface, Professor Hugo Strange (who haunts Thorne after the boss orders his
execution) and Deadshot, the deadly marksman whose battle with Batman atop a
giant typewriter is one of the best-remembered sequences in either character's
history. These stunningly rendered issues (inked by Terry Austin, Al Milgrom
and Dick Giordano) also showcase Bruce Wayne's romance with Silver St. Cloud,
the enchanting woman who discovers the secret identity of her true love. (176
pages, $12.95, ships on Nov. 10.)
BATMAN: WAR ON CRIME OVERSIZED SC
Written by Paul Dini; painted art and cover by Alex Ross.

corporate towers. (64 pages, 10 inches by 13-1/2 inches, $9.95.)
BATMAN/DAREDEVIL
Written by Alan Grant; art and cover by Eduardo Barreto.
Batman/Daredevil opens with a seemingly simple heist
engineered by the Catwoman -- a robbery that gives the Kingpin the weapon he
needs to spread fear and anarchy throughout New York, with just a little help
from the Scarecrow. But when the Scarecrow double-crosses the Kingpin,
threatening his reign over the Big Apple's underworld, the crimelord has no
choice but to join forces with Daredevil and Batman as they fight to save the
city from slipping into fear-induced madness. But what terrors must all three
men overcome to defeat a foe who can instill fear in anyone -- even the Man
Without Fear? (48 pages, $5.95, ships on Nov. 3.)
BATMAN & SUPERMAN: WORLD'S FINEST #10
Written by Karl Kesel; art and cover by Dave Taylor and
Campanella
Penciller Dave Taylor returns for a Prestige Format issue
concluding the 10-issue maxi-series. Huge jailbreaks at Stryker's Island in
Metropolis and Arkham Asylum in Gotham City are only the beginning as huge
groups of villains gather for war. Even Batman and Superman might not survive
without the help of guest stars Superboy, Steel, Nightwing, and Robin.
Meanwhile, curious developments come up in the case of Harrison Gray, the man
whose death precipitated the yearly meetings between the Man of Steel and the
Dark Knight. (48 pages, $4.95, ships on Nov. 24. )
BATMAN BEYOND #3
Written by Hilary J. Bader; art by Craig Rousseau and Rob
Leigh; cover by Bob Smith and Terry Beatty.
It's the return of the Terrific Trio (last seen on the
Kids' WB! animated series). 2-D Man and Magma, the two surviving members of
Gotham City's super-hero team of the future, are in custody after going
berserk. But strange messages from Freon, their dead teammate, lead them to
break out and initiate experiments to reassamble her...using Batman as the
energy source. (32 pages, $1.99, ships on Nov. 24.)

Written by Steve Englehart, Graham Nolan, Joseph Harris;
art by Javier Pulido, Nolan, Eric Battle, and Rob Hunter; cover by Pulido.
In a "Year One" story -- written by Steve
Englehart with art by Javier Pulido -- set mere days after Bruce Wayne assumed
his role as the Dark Knight, the erstwhile hero suffers the difficulties of
juggling two lives. The sacrifices it entails cut deep when stopping a
crimewave in Gotham costs him a chance at love.. Plus, a "Tales of the
Bat-Cave" story (written and illustrated by Graham Nolan) reveals the
"origin" of the cave's legendary giant penny; and the Huntress runs
into a group of juvenile criminals who may be in over their heads (written by
Joseph Harris with art by Eric Battle and Rob Hunter). (48 pages, $2.95, ships
on Nov. 24. )

strife and chaos as Mageddon -- the dread "Anti-Sun" of the Old Gods
-- approaches to give humankind its ultimaate test. But as war and violence
spread around the globe, where are the World's Greatest Super-Heroes? Fighting
for their lives against Luthor's new Injustice Gang, that's where. While the
indestructible General and the new Queen Bee literally tear apart the
Watchtower, Prometheus terrorizes Oracle in Gotham, stealing all the JLA's
