worth checking out your local Warner Bros. Store this Saturday as many of them

details.
ALFRED AWARDS
-------------
AS you will be aware the results of the 1998 ALFRED
AWARDS were posted this week, and as a way of saying thanks to all those who
participated I'd like to share the following e-mail I received this morning:
>>Alan- I just received a few emails with the
results of the 1998 "Alfred Awards"- and I was greatly surprised to
see me as favorite artist! And almost
the entire Nightwing creative crew swept the awards! Amazing!
I wanted to say "Thanks" to you and to everyone
that participated in the voting. It is
very exhilarating to know that the work you do is greatly appreciated. "Thank you!" - Scott McDaniel<<
As always have a good week and all the best.

MORE ON NML
--------------
Editor Jordan Gorfinkel said that one of the stories
during the "No Man's
Land" event in the Batman titles will have to do
with the service people of
the ravaged Gotham City.
"On the surface, it doesn't sound very exciting. Big deal, a story about
a plumber," Gorfinkel said. "But think about it. If you're Mr. Freeze
and you're trying to rule Gotham City, you're going to need the only plumber in
town to fix things if you don't know how to do it. This guy suddenly becomes
the most valuable commodity in Gotham City. Everything's turned on its edge.
"There's no power. There's no batteries. There's no electricity. A video-
game cartridge might be worth $200, but nobody cares about that; it's a coaster
in 'No Man's Land.' But if you have a fresh, red apple, holy cow, you'd
sacrifice your life for that. You haven't seen anything like that for
months."
THE 'REAL' JUSTICE LEAGUE
--------------------------
J.M. DeMatteis is getting real with the Justice League.
DeMatteis is writing a
JLA story as part of editor Andy Helfer's Realworlds line
of Elseworlds one-
shots in 1999, which are set in the world as we know
it. DeMatteis describes his story as
"a sort of Big Chill story about a bunch of kids who grow up fanatical
about the Justice League ... and what happens when they reunite, years later,
in their 30s." Glenn Barr,
DeMatteis' collaborator on Brooklyn Dreams, will be doing the art.

MOVIE NEWS
***********
BATMAN 5 DOWN UNDER?
--------------------------
The Mercury', Tasmania's daily paper, dated 9 January
1999. " The next Batman movie could be filmed in Australia with Mel Gibson
playing the caped creusader.(sic) Reports in London last night said Warner
Brothers studio wanted 43-year-old Gibson for the fifth Batman adventure film -
a role that could earn him up to $100 million through salary and profit share.
It is understood studio executives are anxious to secure an actor of Gibson's
box office success, particularly with action movies, after George Cloonet(sic)
pulled out.
Warner Brothers also wants Jack Nicholson to play the
Joker once again.
The choice of Australia as the filming venue has the
support of studio executives and Richard Donner, who they want as
director."
BUT THEN AGAIN
----------------
Responding to reports that producer/director Richard
Donner is involved with the next Batman live-action movie, a member of his
staff said they are inaccurate, "No truth -- not one iota,"
ANOTHER NAIL
------------
Following the Richard Donner story Aint-It-Cool news
asked around Warners and recived the same denial. The report also contains the
following "Currently, BATMAN is a dead property in the live-action world
over at WARNERS. Perhaps it will get developed to be made sometime after the
year 2000, but don't hold your breath."

UK BAT_FANS - THE BBC NEEDS YOU
My name is Julian and I'm producer making a documentary about
Batman's 60th
anniversary for
BBC 2 in the UK. The doc. will trace the Dark Knights seven
decade history and look at the ways in which the
character has changed over
the years. We'll also look at the movies, movie serials,
animated series and
TV series. I'll be in New York to meet some D.C. people
at the end of the
month and am looking for interesting tit bits from Bat
fans - primarily in
the UK. What's your favourite Bat anecdote? What's so
great about the Dark
Knight? What makes the character so special? Also, this
is probably for UK
Gothamites I suspect, we're trying to track down famous
celebs who love
Batman - any help with that will be much appreciated.
I can be contacted
on [email protected] and the programme will be
broadcast on BBC RADIO 2 on Tuesday February 23rd.
