         GOTHAM WEEKLY NEWS #132

         Friday 2nd June 2000

*************************************************************

Welcome to another week’s round up of news from the world of the Bat.

Highlight of the week for me is the re-launch of COMICOLOGY with two excellent Batman related interviews and a terrific ROBIN cover by Bruce Timm. Check it out at your local comics store.

Next Friday I’ll be in New York for the day so GWN#133 will be slightly late, probably being sent out on Saturday.

As always, have a great week.

ALEX ROSS & PAUL DINI TO DEBUT 'BATMAN: WAR ON CRIME' LITHOGRAPH AT WARNER BROS. STUDIO STORE PRIOR TO JUNE 17 SOTHEBY'S AUCTION

-------------------------------------------------------------

Renowned comic book artist Alex Ross will debut a limited-edition lithograph from the award-winning tabloid BATMAN: WAR ON CRIME at the Warner Bros. Studio Store Gallery at 5th Avenue and 57th Street in New York City on Thursday, June 8, 1999 at 7:00 pm. WAR ON CRIME author Paul Dini will also attend. The reception for Ross will also commemorate Sotheby's auction of the entire selection of original paintings from BATMAN: WAR ON CRIME.

Selected pieces of original art, to be auctioned at Sotheby's on June 17 will be on display at the Warner Bros. Studio Store in New York at 5th Avenue and 57th Street from June 1 - 8. Ross will donate all proceeds from the auction to the John A. Reisenbach Foundation, benefiting the John A.Reisenbach Charter School in Harlem. DIXON TEAMS ON ROBIN

--------------------

Chuck Dixon recently told The Comic Continuum website (http://www.comicscontinuum.com ) that he will co-write DC Comics' Robin #87-90 with Scott Beatty in a story that will introduce a "mystery" new character.

"He's a Scott Beatty creation and we've been talking about him for two years now," Dixon told The Continuum. "I think this character will catch on in a big way. The story is a continent spanning adventure story with lots of 'James Bond' moments and a threat way above Robin's weight class. This arc opens a whole big can o'worms which will reverberate through the DCU in the coming year -- in my books anyhow. It also includes the return of a classic Robin villain who's been out of the limelight for a while."

Dixon said he will return as sole writer of Robin as of Robin #91.

GRAHAM NOLAN “M.D.”

-------------------

Former ALFRED AWARD winner and regular DETECTIVE penciller Graham Nolan will be taking over the art chores on the daily syndicated comic strip “Rex Morgan M.D.” starting on June 19th.

ORDER THE SCRIPT BEFORE SEEING THE MOVIE

-----------------------------------------

Comics2Film reports that fans eager for the Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker feature will be able to order the script before the movie comes out. Amazon.com is now taking orders for the official screenplay by Paul Dini, which is set to ship September 1. The movie itself is not due out until October of this year.

BATMAN 5 ON THE WAY ?

----------------------

JettD60’s excellent BATMAN-5 web site (http://jettd60.tripod.com/) reports this week that “It seems that Darren Aronofsky will be the director for the next (BATMAN) film. And it will indeed be an adaptation of (the) BATMAN: YEAR ONE (story line ). Even though a variety of scripts and approaches were looked at “Year One” has long led the pack. Anyway, it seems that Aronofsky has gone as far as to be looking into possible casting. Josh Hartnett ( from THE FACULTY) is a named mentioned to be in consideration for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Also, Vin Diesel and Norman Reedus are names associated with young versions of Victor Fries and The Joker respectively. It seems that the film may take the approach that was being considered for the now-canned BRUCE WAYNE TV series; where we will be introduced to characters who will later become Mr. Freeze, The Joker, Harvey Dent/Two-Face, etc.” JettD60 goes on to quote the Ain’t-It-Cool news website (http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/ )as reporting that “Aronofsky and WB, have looked into the hiring of a composer for the films score and construction and technical crews. This indicates that WB is ready to move forward with the film.”
