DENNY O'NEIL "MISUNDERSTOOD"

----------------------------------------------------

Last weeks' Entertainment Weekly saw a quote from Batman group editor Denny O'Neil that has caused rumors of a complet revamp of all DC's main comics (see below). Later in the week Denny countered with the following statement: " "That sound you hear is not a rocket engine reaching escape velocity. No, it's the heartfelt and loud sigh of a misunderstood Batman editor,  I was quoted as saying that the entire DC Comics line would begin anew with the year 2000. What I meant to tell the world, of course, is that after our current storyline - No Man's Land - the Batman books will revamp themselves. That is, we'll do plots that don't refer to anything we've done earlier, and we may try some new visuals. Maybe introduce some new characters, too. But will we dub the year's first issue of every book a new #1? No. The only #1's will be attached to new titles, if any. I'm sorry for any confusion and/or consternation the misstatement has caused anyone, in or out of the comics world."

"Winging It" a Behind The Scenes article on the next 12 months Batman devlopments in TV and Comics. Although none of the news it contains is new to GWN readers, the article does contain an interesting quote from Denny O'Neil that "we will relaunch the entire DC line in 2000. In six months, my staff and I will determine where we take the entire (Batman) franchise." The article goes on to say that O'Neil is looking in the direction of the Animated series for inspiration and a "visual idea I'd like to borrow."
