This blanket has a checkerboard pattern (hence the name) with a garter stitch border. I knitted it for my cousin's new baby Rory, and she tells me he loves it! The pattern is quite simple and is a great project for beginners. Yarn: Bernat cottontots 100% cotton "Wonder Dreams" (variegated). I believe I used 5 skeins of this 4 oz (113 g) yarn, although it may have been 6. Needles: size 7 circular needles (circular needles are my personal preference) not knitted in the round, however Gauge: approx. 18 sts per 4" |

| Cast on 140 sts and work garter stitch for 10 rows.
Rows 11-20: K10, *K10, P10*, repeat from * until there are 10 sts left, K10. Rows 21-30: K10, *P10, K10*, repeat from * until there are 10 sts left, K10. Continue in this checkerboard pattern, changing every 10 rows. I made 170 rows (17 boxes) before I called it quits. But you may knit the pattern for long as you like, then knit a garter stitch top border, et voila, c'est fini! |

Notes: When I knitted this blanket, it turned out that
the top and bottom borders were thinner than the side ones, so you may either knit more rows on the top and bottom, or knit less than 10 on each side to even it out. I personally like it the way it turned out! |
