Tri-Colored Baby Mittens

Yarn: Lion's Brand Cotton Ease in
colors Pineapple, Pistachio, and Candy Blue
Needles: size 6 and 7 double pointed, tapestry needle.
Gauge: approx. 4.5 sts= 1 inch
Finished mitten size is approx. 4.5" x 3"

On size 6 d.p. needles, cast on 22 sts with color A. Arrange evenly between 3 d.p. needles. *K1, P1* in the round for about one inch to create single rib pattern. On size 7 needles, increase row by 5 sts as follows:
K2, M1, K5, M1, K4, M1, K5, M1, K4, M1, K2.
There should be a total of 27 sts between 3 needles.
Next row, K9, then even out sts so there are 9 sts per needle, and the beginning of the row is in the center rather than the edge of the d.p. needle. Introduce color B, and K9, then introduce color C and knit around until you reach color A again. (Knitting with color C in this row will be more than 9 sts and will alternate between colors in other rows). Continue knitting around, picking up colors as they appear. Knit for approx. 2 inches.

Decrease: Start at the beginning of the row, and be sure to use a stitch marker!! Continue same color pattern as before.
Row 1: *K4, K2 tog, K3* and repeat twice more.
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: *K3, K2 tog, K3* and repeat twice more.
Row 4: Knit
Row 5: *K2, K2 tog, K3* and repeat twice more.

Break off yarn and thread tapestry needle with color A through two color A sts, and do the same for colors B and C. Secure inside mitten and darn in all loose yarn. Crochet or braid a cord and fasten it to each mitten if desired.
