Basically, poi is two objects hanging in the end of two leashes(chain, string,cable etc.) The objects can be tennisballs, tennisballs with tails(huskytails), glowsticks or flamepoodles. Flamepoodles are only for proffessionals ofcurse.  Glowsticks and flamepoodels both look fantastic in the dark and if you want to poi when it is not dark you can use huskytails, also called comets. When you poi you need music, personally I like trance/techno/club/house when I poi.
Poi orginates from the natives of New Zealand, the Maoris. Poi can be used for exercise or as entertainment. When you poi you train both parts of the brain, which is a good thing.  You also get improved smooth and flexibility when you poi.
But today poi is mostly used for entertainment.
