Welcome to the Gospel Herald Page

The Gospel Herald is a monthly, non-profit magazine published by the Gospel Herald Foundation and serving churches of Christ in Canada.  It was founded in 1936 by Robert Sinclair.  In 1996, the Gospel Herald celebrated its sixtieth anniversary.

ANNIVERSARY ISSUE - MARCH 1996

The front of the anniversary issue featured several of the mastheads that have been used over the years.  Included in this issue were articles written by many of those who have been involved in the Gospel Herald over the years, including an article by J.C. Bailey that was reprinted from the front page of the first issue.

The first issue was published March, 1936 in Wishart, Saskatchewan.  In 1938, J.C. Bailey took over as editor, publishing the paper in Radville, Saskatchewan.  In October, 1953 Eugene Perry and Roy Merritt took over as co-editors, publishing the paper from Beamsville, Ontario beginning in November, with the co-editors alternating issues.  In 1958, the editorial responsibilities were redivided, with Roy Merritt looking after the teaching content and Eugene Perry handling the news, publicity, advertising, production, distribution and managing the Gospel Herald bookstore.  During the times that the co-editors have gone overseas to work in various mission efforts, Walter Hart, Ralph Perry and Wayne Turner looked after the publication.  After 40 years of service, Roy Merritt retired from the role of co-editor in 1993.  Wayne Turner took over his responsibilities.    TOP
