Chapter Two
  "It's not that bad!"
"Kimmi, I'm failing algebra, I'm failing physics, I'm making C's in the rest of my classes...things don't get much worse!"
"Well, I made a B in social science if it makes you feel any better."
Maegan shook her head and allowed strands of her sandy blonde hair fall loosely down. "Yeah, right. Your B compared to my D and F. That's really something to be proud of."
Kimmi smirked. "I'm going to help you. And I won't take no for an answer. You've gone through this long enough! And it's not that you aren't smart, it's just that you don't understand the teaching methods. So, I'll help you!"
"Why can't my life exactly how I want it?" Maegan sighed. "Why can't I get a career in singing and not have to worry about high school for the rest of my friggin' life?"
  "Because even if you
were a singer, you'd still have to pass high school."
"Yeah, but I'd get a private tutor."
Kimmi grinned. "And that's were I come in..."

Justin, we'd like to officially welcome you to the casst. It's great to have you here."
The boy nodded reluctantly and flopped down in an empty chair. A small girl with sandy blonde hair sat next to him.
"Hi, I'm Britney," she said kindly.
   "I'm Justin," he replied nervously.
"What's the matter?" she asked. "Don't you want to be here?"
He sighed. "I do, it's just that I'm really not ready for a commitment like this. And I'm from Tennessee, so my mom andn I had to move down here."
The girl called Britney looked at him with pity and lightly patter his shoulder. "I know exactly how you feel. I'm from Louisiana, but performing is my life. Apparently, it's yours, too. Otherwise, you wouldn't even be here."
Justin smiled for the first time that day. "Yeah, I guess you're right. Boy, I kinda freaked out there for a second!"
"That's okay, we're all entitled to our moments."
Justin laughed. He could tell that this would be a long, wonderful friendship...
   "Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears?"
  "Yes, sir?" Britney replied.
"We're going to have you two sing this together."
The brace glanced at the music they were presented with.
"Good Lord!" Justin laughed. "How the heck am I supposed to rap about being a 'disciplined child'? I mean, that's corny."
"You think THAT'S bad?" Britney giggled. "Okay, this is MY part. 'I know a place. Ain't nobody cryin'. Ain't nobody worryin'..."
"Well, at least we get to make idiots of ourselves together..."

Justin studied himself in the mirror and slapped his face a few times to get the musty scent of his after-shave to brighten the day. He slowly pulled an old tee shirt over his head and zipped his fly. "It's not like they're not gonna make me change, anyway." A smirk creased his brow as he realized the predicament he was in. Nothing held meaning anymore after what she had done by hiding that from him. He could never forgive her, nor did he think he could move on. However, he knew that his occupation came first, and finally exited the room fresh and ready to face the world...or so he hoped.

Maegan groaned. "Kimmi, I made yet ANOTHER C on a major test!"
Kimmi furrowed her brows in confusion. "I wouldn't know why! You knew everything when we were studying!"
"That's just the thing!" Maegan said exasperated. "I know it...then I take the test and I don't! I don't get it."
"Well, frankly, neither do I," Kimmim muttered.
"This is TERRIBLE!" Maegan cried, shoving her algebra book into her locker and grabbing her Biology. "Why can't this STUPID school year just work out?"
"Because it's like you said...stupid," Kimmi answered.
Maegan smiled lightly as she and Kimmi began to make their way down the hallway. Someone pushed up against Kimmi, which resulted in the halls being filled with random obscenities. Once the girls' mouth was shut again, Maegan simply said, "Yeah, but I'm STILL failing. Stupid school or not."
"That guy was such an asshole," Kimmi started, then looked nervously at her friend, hugging her books tightly to her chest. "Is it maybe about your mom?"
Maegan jerked her to the side to glare at her friend. "My mom has NOTHING to do with this and you know it. What happened is in the past, the choices she made have finally caught up with her and they don't effect me at all. Good freaking Lord...talk about assholes!"
Kimmi grimaced. "Look, I'm sorry. Forget I brought it up at all. I know it has nothing to do with you and I was a real bitch to bring up that it would. Truce?"
Maegan sighed. "Sure, why not. I need a best friend to dump my problems on anyway. And besides, if I stayed mad at you, you could leak out some of my secrets."
Kimmi laughed as the two girls hugged. "Yeah, you know I would." However, Maegan shook her hair out of her face anxiously. What if her mom's decisions DID come back to haunt her?

*****

Justin stared at the angel in front of him. All of this had become too much for him to bear. He knew he was young, but he could swear that he was in love. "Okay, Timberlake," he told himself, "this is your chance it's now or never."
   "Um...Britney?" he asked quietly.
"Yes?" the petite creature answered as if she knew something that he didn't.
"Have you...have you, uh, ever been...um...kissed before?"
