The
author Dr. Gobinder Singh (b.1942) was born at village Jogipur in district
Patiala (Punjab) in India. A DAVite and old Mahendrian of the mid sixties,
he has a double Masters' in Political Science and History from Punjabi
University Patiala (India). He was a UGC sponsored Teacher Fellow at Punjab
university Chandigarh for two terms and received the twin degrees of Master
of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy from that university. Afterwards,
he studied Political Science and Education at San Jose State University
in the United States. A manumits merit holder during his academic career,
he is a passionate student of Science and Arts.
Dr. Samrao taught History and Political Science for thirty years in various graduate and post graduate institutions in Punjab. He was an Associate Professor of Political Science at Punjabi University Patiala before he sought voluntary retirement from that position in February 2000.
As part of his teaching career Dr. Samrao was actively involved in conducting and supervising research. His specialized fields of research were religion and terrorism. He has published a book titled Religion and Politics in the Punjab (1986) and over two dozen research papers on topics related to these fields. For a number of years covering the rise and fall of the Militant Movement in Punjab, he was on the panel of book reviewers of The Tribune (Chandigarh). During that period he published about fifty review articles on contemporary publications on religion, militancy and terrorism. He also guided and supervised the work of 18 associated research scholars who wrote their M.Phil or doctoral dissertations in the fields mentioned above. The last in the series of these research works was a 700-page voluminus thesis entitled Politics of Terror, which discovered wonderful patterns in the Terrorist Movement in Punjab after an exhaustive study of its entire run out from the early eighties to the mid nineties. In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Samrao has attended and participated in about 60 academic, medical and educational congresses and seminars.
Dr. Samrao has a passionate interest in Homeopathy. He
has been a serious student of the subject for the last 35 years. For the
same number of years he has been practicing this art in his spare time
to promote health and happiness of the people. He was registered as a practicing
homeopath with the Punjab Homoeopathic Medical Council, while the Punjabi
University Patiala had permitted him to do his free time charitable practice.
He has accomplished numerous miraculous cures with this wonderful health
art. At present he is practicing homeopathy in the Bay and the River Areas
in California
