| EARTH SCIENCE 2007-2008 TOPICS: In science class this year, we will be exploring the many fields of earth science. We will tackle everything from maps to volcanoes. While we will be covering a range of topics, our focus will stay on how to think scientifically and how these topics work into our daily lives. MATERIALS: Please come prepared to class. The following materials should be brought to class every day: a one-subject spiral notebook, 2 pens or pencils, a hand-held pencil sharpener, and the students CMS organizer. *We are asking for a per student donation of $10 to offset the lab costs of the science program. Thank you for your support and generosity. GRADES: Science grades will be based on: -classwork (labs, warm-ups, notes) 25% -homework 15% -projects 20% -tests/quizzes 30% -participation 10% EXPECTATIONS: Each one of you has the right to a positive learning environment. In order to achieve this every day in the classroom, I will hold each of you responsible for your actions and I will expect each of you to behave appropriately. This includes: 1. Acting respectfully towards yourself, your peers, and your teachers. 2. Keeping comments positive and constructive. 3. Speaking at a volume level that reflects the activity at-hand(i.e. group work requires talking, individual work requires silence, class discussion requires one person speaking at a time). 4. Recognizing that cheating or helping others to cheat is unacceptable. 5. Entering the classroom with an open mind, ready to learn. Note to Parents: In order for this school year to be as productive as possible for every student, I believe that it is critical for us to work together. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have (email is best). Please provide your contact information and have your child return the following page. Thank you!
