| I was in a car wreck and the car was totaled... what next? One needs to beware the adjuster of the other party's insurance company. Though they claim to use NADA standards to determine the cost of your vehicle assuming a total, they use an industry rating scheme that really lowballs you on the value of the car. You need to go to the following sites listed below and get an AVERAGE value between the two. You do not have to accept their offer if you don't think its fair and can opt for: 1) request a face to face meeting with the adjuster's supervisor, 2) indicate you may want to invoke the third party evaluator clause (in most cases, you have the right to have a indipendent third party determine the value, but it can be a two edged sword), and 3) ultimately sue in small claims court if they are unfair. A. NADA is the first place to get a car value... B. The second place to go is to Edmunds... I decided to buy a new car recently and evaluated the available choices of cars on set criteria. Anyone who knows me knows how particular I am about certain things. At any rate, the decision criteria was as follows: 1. Good posture (I am 6'6" tall so this was a factor) 2. Internal storage capacity was important 3. Good gas mileage 4. Bulletproof reliability 5. Good Performance I know, I know... sounds impossible to balance all those factors... almost like a combination between a pickup truck and a sports car. In fact, go test drive one, you won't belive the versitility and performance until you sit in one. I should be picking it up with one mile on it on the 4th of July. It dosen't get any better than that! UPDATE: Note, though they do not make the XRS with the 190hp motor any more (mine was the last 2006 off the production line), the nex generations of Matrix are a great vehicle with amazing gas mileage.
