"This years gig on the green was the best to date and is defiantly proof that the local live music scene is blooming. All three bands lived up to expectations, Co-Axe mixing a range of covers with there own material, Oswald the third playing a set that would of made there mentors, Sonic Youth, and the Velvet Underground proud, and Ethos pleasing the crowd with the nu-metal covers, and some of their own material.    Co-Axe where first to take to the stage, and despite a few minor technical difficulties that where quickly sorted, they played a strong set consisting of several Muse covers, and some well written songs of their own. The band really threw themselves into the music, and got the reaction they deserved.

Next up where the unusual and arty Oswald the third. Their set started with an angular, but nonetheless poppy song, sounding something between Radiohead and Elastica. Throughout the set, only the singer moved, the other members remained totally stationary, except to look at each other. They continued their set in much the same manner as it began, only more so. In final two songs they really let themselves go, guitars screeched, and the rhythm section somehow managed to hold it all together beautifully. This was half an hour of fragile beauty and pure terror.

Next up where Ethos. The crowd knew what to expect, and Ethos did not disappoint them. The band played their typical mix, of Rage Against the Machine covers, and mellow funk. During the set I briefly talked with some of Oswald the third, who where discussing every moment of their set, with their friends. Both Matt, and Luke (Bass and guitar/vocals/synthesiser, respectively) are quite but with a little encouragement they talk about their band.

They where formed about a year ago, and claim to have "had numerous line up changes", and they claim to be influenced by "the velvet underground, more than the Beatles," The rhythm guitarist then states that "we are the polar opposite of, all of the mindless macho shouty bands, that want to be Rage Against the Machine. I hate Limp Bizkit, they really bore me! " The event was a total success, according to the organisers. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and left the park in good spirits. The local music scene is really good at the moment and this is proof of it."
