Apologies
She was so frustrated with him.  How hard is it to be where you say you are going to be she thought.  She went to her bedroom, stripped off her clothes and climbed into bed.  Just as she was drifting off she heard a knock on the door.  She lay in bed and sighed wondering if she should even bother to answer.  She knew who it was; and she wasnt in the best of moods.  He continued to bang on the door. She got out of bed, slipped on her robe and walked to the door.

He stood there smiling as if nothing was wrong and that made her even more upset.  He reached in to kiss her and she noticed the faint smell of alcohol on his breath as she turned her head.  He frowned slightly,
Whats wrong?  She looked at him in disbelief,
Whats wrong?  You said youd be here four hours ago.  Not only did you not show up, you didnt call either.  He huffed and walked through the door,
I have one mother I dont need another.  I dont need the hassle of having to call and check in every time I do something with my friends. Her voice began to rise,
Its not about being your mother or keeping you on a leash or any other idea thats floating in your head.  Its about common courtesy.  My time is just as valuable as yours.  Thats not what this is about.  He was screaming now,
Then what is this about?   She looked at him and lowered her voice,
I dont need to know where you are and who you are with every minute of the day.  I trust you, until you give me a reason not to.  But I gotta say, crap like this doesnt help. He walked over and tried to kiss her again.  She walked away and just before she entered the bedroom she turned to him,
You know, thats a shitty way to try and apologize.

He ran his fingers through his hair and walked through her bedroom door just as she walked out of the bathroom with a glass of water.  He walked over to her, took the glass and placed it on the nightstand.  He placed his large hands over hers and pulled her towards him as he sat on the bed.  He lifted his gaze from his shoes to her face,
Youre right.  Im sorry I should have called.  I was out with the guys and I lost track of time.  After a while, after a couple of drinks and a game of pool, I didnt think it was a big deal.  He saw the look on her face,
Im not drunk, I promise.  She looked away and shook her head,
So you thought of me, for a brief second, but I wasnt important enough for you to pull out your cell phone and call?  Nick looked down and sighed,
I dont know what to say.  Im sorry.  Its not that you arent important, dont say that.  I was just Once she saw he wasnt going to finish she volunteered,
Inconsiderate?  He looked up at her briefly,
Yeah, Im sorry.  She sighed and lifted his chin so he was looking at her,
Thank you for apologizing correctly.  Im still irritated by it, but its over.
