| Chapter 41 Quinn rolled over and looked at the clock to see that it was seven thirty. She turned the television on and walked over to Mac's bed, looking down at her sleeping peacefully. The thought of her daughter being cut open made her eyes water. She shook her head and went into the bathroom, standing before the mirror she looked at herself and shook her head, no makeup and her hair was wild. She pulled her hair back in a ponytail and ran her hands over her face. It had been a long time since she cared what she looked like. She sat outside in of the hospital courtyards sipping hot tea as she listened to the messages on her cell phone. She stopped sipping and breathing when she heard Larry's voice over telling her he and Nick were in the air on their way to Miami and that they would be at the hospital in the morning to see her and Mac. It turned her stomach completely upside down and she wanted to vomit but couldn't because she hadn't eaten anything, so all she did was dry heave. Nick was on his way? He was in town at this very moment? She was unsure of how she was supposed to feel about it this news. If it were Nick's voice on her phone she probably wouldn't believe it in the first place. His track record was bad when it came to supporting her and Mac and that was putting it nicely. She knew she had to be strong for Mac, because she was all Mac had. Nick was not dependable, he proved that when he delayed making his way to Miami. After she told him their daughter needed surgery he was more concerned about a tour, screaming fans, willing groupies. He proved right then and there that she and Mac could not depend on him. She jumped when the loud shrill of the phone interrupted her thoughts. What if it was Nick, she thought as her heart began to race. She looked down and sighed from relief when she saw Elliott's name, "Hello?" "Hi, did you get any sleep your last night?" She nodded her head. Later that day Mac would be moved to pre-operation and she could no longer stay in the room with Mac, she hadn't given serious thought to what she was going to do. Maybe get a room in the same hotel as her family, "Yeah, actually I did." He sighed, "So, have you heard from Nick?" Funny he should mention Nick, "As a matter of fact Larry called. They'tr in town and will be here this morning." She was unable to ask about his grunt after her response and shrugged it off after he continued, "I'll be there tonight. If you need me, call me at the store." She smiled, "I'll do that." She sat outside for a moment and gathering her thoughts. It was going to be a long eventful day, she could feel it. Quinn, her parents and her brother Nate, short for Nathan, were sitting in Mac's room watching television when there was a knock on the door. She looked over as her father answered the door and smiled when she saw Larry. She walked over, wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered as she closed her eyes, "Hi, I'm glad you came." He rubbed her back with his free hand and whispered, "Just wish I could have been here sooner." She knew what that meant, that he wised he presonally could have been there sooner and that Nick would have got off his ass sooner. Thr thought of Nick caused her to open her eyes to see him standing there more uncomfortable than any human being she had ever seen. She pulled out of Larry's grasp and smiled at the flowers in his hand, "You didn't have to." He nodded his head, "I wanted to." as said as he offered them to her, "Thank you." She had to be the bigger person she thought as she once again looked over at Nick who was standing behind Larry with his own arrangement of flowers, it was how she was raised to be, "Nick, thanks for coming." She took the flowers from his hand and turned to her family and pointed at each person, "This is my dad, Robert; my mother, Lillian and my brother Nathan, we call him Nate." Everyone this is Larry." Her father interrupted, "Larry, we've heard about you. You're the bodyguard right?" Larry nodded, "Yes sir, I am." Robert shook his head and walked over to him and shook his head, "No need to call me sir. Just call me Robert." Larry nodded and smiled at Quinn's family, she had talked about him to her family on numerous occassions but she hadn't talked about Nick, ever. She stretched her hand out towards Nick, "This is Nick. Nick, this is my family." They all smiled and waved at him but she knew it was obvious to both Nick and Larry that her family had no idea who he was. She went and stood bwtween Nick and Larry and placed her hand on their backs, "Here, she's over here, come look." They both timidly made their way over and Larry was the first to speak, "She looks." he commented as they watched her look around. Quinn nodded, "Yeah, that's the hardest part. She's not in a coma or hooked up to some machine, she looks perfectly normal." Larry cleared his throat and smiled slightly, "Don't remember her being this quiet though." She smiled and nodded, "Yeah, that's from the medicine." Her brother and father stood up, "We're going to go get some breakfast, do you guys want anything?" Everyone shook their heads and Lillian stood up, "I think I'll get something, but I'm not sure what I want. I think I will go with you." They walked out the door and left Nick, Quinn and Larry alone. Once the door closed Larry looked at the both of them, "I'm going to find a vending machine, think I'll get a Pepsi." He walked out the door leaving Nick and Quinn alone. Quinn stood next to Mac's bed and waited for Nick to make the first attempt at conversation, why should she? And why should she make it easy for him, she was tired of making it easy for him, "So, um how is she?" She shook her head and rolled her eyes, "Sick." She could see his head fall as he looked down at the floor, "Has she had surgery?" Quinn shook her head, "It's tomorrow." She looked over at him and watched his nod his head for a lack of anything better to do, "So, she has surgery then what?" She went over to the bed she had been sleeping in and kicked off her shoes, getting comfortable underneath the sheets, "She has this surgery then two more years down the road." She saw his eyes widen and she knew he hadn't been expecting that, she hadn't when she first heard it either. He took a deep breath and released it slowly, "Do you need for me to pay for-" She shook her head, "No, that's taken care of." That was all she said before she rolled on her side and turned her back to him. She didn't want to talk to him, there was nothing to say at that moment. If he thought this was going to be easy for him like all the other times she allowed him to walk in and play good guy he was greatly mistaken. He royally fucked up this time and she was going to try her hardest to make sure he knew that every minute he was around her. Chapter 42 Reunited Stories Feedback |
