Chapter 32

Quinn was sitting on the couch eating dinner as Mac sat in her playpen when the phone rang.  She jumped up, plate still in hand, and grabbed the phone,
"Hello?"  She headed back to the couch and sat down,
"Hi momma.  What's up?"  She smiled,
"I'm not your momma.  What's up Chris?"  Chris was already talking about going back to Miami for a visit,
"I'm fine.  How is my little girl?"  Quinn was used to it now.  No one really asked how she was doing anymore, it was all about MacKenzie, the baby, everyone's favorite little girl,
"She's ok.  Very quiet but that's better than all the crying she used to do."  She looked over at MacKenzie who was looking at Quinn like she knew she was the topic of discussion,
"Hey, if I tell you something will you promise not to get mad?"  Quinn's stomach dropped like it always did when someone started a conversation with those kind of words,
"Ok, I promise."  She hoped she wouldn't get mad but even if it did upset her she would keep it to herself,
"I was the one who told Nick about Mac.  Well, not really but when I was at your house and you went to the store I found Larry's number in your phone and called him and told him."  Quinn wasn't really upset, Nick needed to know, deserved to know.  She knew that all along, Chris and Larry just made it easier for her,
"I'm not mad."  She laughed,
"So it's your fault Nick and I slept together when he was here."  There was silence and she  wasn't sure if Chris heard her,
"Chris, did you hear me?"  She frowned slightly as she waited for Chris to answer,
"Yeah.  Yeah I heard you Quinn.  What the hell is wrong with you?'  She wasn't expecting to hear that,
"What?"  Chris was always happy about her news with Nick, except the time she admitted she and Nick didn't use condoms in Mexico.  But that all didn't matter because she never got pregnant in Mexico.  In fact, she was totally shocked when she found out she was pregnant, with all the sex they had in Mexico she never got pregnant but one weekend in Marathon, while using protection, she ended up knocked up,
"You heard me.  What the hell is wrong with you?  You lost John because of Nick and now you're going to screw up another relationship?  With a man that wants to marry you Quinn?  Come on, how many guys you know are going to want to marry someone with a kid?  James treats you right, treats Mac right and this is how you do him?"  Quinn was stunned into silence, Chris had never talked to her like that,
"And for what?  Nick?  A male whore, I love Nick to death, but a dog is a dog and he is not going to change.  Don't think for a minute because you have that kid that Nick is going to want to settle down and be a husband and a father.  If it goes Nick's way no one will ever find out about that kid.  He'll just send that check, oh no I'm sorry, his LAWYER will send the check and he MIGHT show up every now and then.  And you and Mac will be alone."  Quinn shook her head as she wiped the tears away,
"It's not like that.  It just happened.   And you're right, Nick won't be around so it's not going to mess up my relationship with James.  It was a one time thing and it won't happen again."  Chris grunted,
"Don't come crying to me when it all blows up in your face...again."  Ouch, that one hurt alot.  If she knew her phone call was going to be like this she wouldn't have bothered to answer it,
"Look, I have to get off the phone I have some stuff to do."  Chris was equally short with her,
"Bye."  Before Quinn could even think of what to say next Chris was gone,
"Whatever, I don't need any advice."  She wiped the remaining tears from her eyes and placed the phone on the table.  As she stared at it, it began to ring and she looked at the caller ID before answering and saw the familiar name,
"Hello?"  Mac make a gurgling noise and Quinn went over and picked her up carrying her back to the couch,
"Hi dollface, how's the little one?"  She smiled, once again left out and not cared about,
"She's great, sitting here on my lap.  What's up with you?"  She and Elliott didn't hang out as much.  She had a kid now, their lives were different and a kid just didn't fit into his lifestyle,
"Nothing much.  Just got back from St Thomas.  Just may have to move there."  She smiled,
"Must be nice to just go to the Bahamas."  Elliott laughed,
"Please, this is Miami, you can swim to the Bahamas.  Besides, we can visit, you can afford to buy a home there.  We can't all have a Backstreet Boy's love child."  She rolled her eyes,
"Yeah, yeah."  She couldn't help but replay Chris' harsh words in her head,
"Hey, what's wrong?  You sound down.  Baby tiring you out?"  She took a deep breath and let it out,
"Chris just chewed me out."  She wasn't sure why she said that, it would just lead to more questions,
"Why?  What happened?"  She shook her head as she held Mac closer to her,
"I slept with Nick again."  She could hear Elliott groan and she started to cry,
"Ah Quinn why?  He's no good for you."  She sobbed into the phone,
"I don't know.  I just can't say no to him.  I want him Elliott, I think I love him."  He made her smile for no reason at all.  Just to see his face on the television, to hear his voice over the phone, it made her feel so good.  And sometimes there just weren't words to describe what his touch did to her,
"You don't love him.  It's infactuation and the longer you stay away from him the more you'll see that.  You were able to meet James and fall in love with him when Nick was out of your life.  Don't get caught up in the fairytale because you and Nick share Mac."  She sniffled,
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Don't think you and Nick should be together and that it could work just because you have a kid.  You don't need love to make a kid.  If that was the case there would be a whole heck of a lot less people in the world."  She sighed,
"Maybe not with everyone but Nick and I get along.  It could work."  Elliott sighed,
"And could you handle staying at home, taking care of the kid while your husband fucked his way around the world?  Because you know he would don't you?"  Quinn sighed and lay her head back on the couch,
"I don't want to think about it.  I just want to take a shower and get in bed.  I'll call you tomorrow ok?"
"Ok."  She hung up and placed Mac in her crib after kissing her,
"Be good for mommy ok?  I'm going to take a shower."  She plugged in the nightlight and turned off the light as she walked out the door.
