| Chapter 25 Kevin swung the baseball bat in Howie's room, "Two days off. Can't wait." Howie smiled and nodded, "Yep, we definitely need it." Nick moved around in his seat. He decided he was going to do what he planned. He took a deep breath, "Uh guys, just so you know. I'm not going to spend my days off here. I got some stuff to take care of." Kevin looked over at him, "What do you have to take care of? We're gonna play softball." Nick nodded, "I know but I'm not going to be missing any appointments. That's what's most important right?" Howie was about to agree with Kevin, they needed to spend some time together, they rarely were together excpet when it was work related. But when he saw the look on Nick's face he changed his mind, "This is the best time to do it, on off days, so it doesn't interfere with the job." AJ stood up and sat down next to Nick, "Where are you going? What do you have to take care of?" Nick sighed and held his head down. He didn't feel he owed them that information. They were his days off and he should be able to spend them anyway he wanted. If Kevin said he had to go take care of something personal during down time he wouldn't demand to be told. That was what bothered him, they weren't asking out of sheer curiosity, they were demanding as if they were going to give their permission or not, "I'm going to Florida and I don't want to talk about why." He looked over at Kevin, "And you can tell Brian it has nothing to do with my family so don't even think about calling my mother again." He was still pissed at Brian for checking up on him like a child. Kevin shook his head, "You need to stay on tour. All we need is for you to leave and not get back in time." Nick rolled his eyes, "Like you did? Don't worry, there is no reason I won't make it back." Kevin seemed pissed at Nick's reminder of the concert he missed but he didn't care because he wanted to make sure Kevin remembered that incident since Nick felt he was trying to make it seem as if only he could mess up. Nick stood up, "I'm flying out tonight after the concert. I'll meet you in the next city-" Kevin shook his head, "Nick-" Nick just kept talking, "And Larry will be with me. You have my cell. See ya, I'm gonna take a nap before we have to leave." Without another word or even a look back he walked out and went back to his room. He called and left a message for Quinn letting her know that he would be in town that night and that he would see her the next day. Nick and Larry arrived in Miami exhausted, he was glad their hotel was near the airport, he just wanted to crash. Nick looked down and turned on his phone. He had a message from Quinn letting him know she got his message and that she would call him somtime around noon during her lunch break and they would discuss when to get together. He lay his head back as they made their way to the hotel. He collapsed on his bed and her Larry laughing, "What's so funny?" He rolled over and looked up at Larry, "Nothing, so what's the plan?" Nick shrugged, "She's supposed to call me during her lunch break so we can plan what time to get together." Larry sat down on the bed, "So, have you gotten anymore excited about the idea of being a dad?" Nick closed his eyes and sighed heavily, "I don't know man, every time I do think about it, it's usually not good. Every now and then it seems cool and then I start thinking about what everyone is gonna be saying when they find out." He shook his head and placed his arm over his eyes, "You can't think about that. They have nothing to do with it and it's none of their business. It's between you and Quinn and as long as you two take care of her and love her everyone else can go to hell." Nick shook his head, "I'm not just talking about the media and fans and shit. I mean, I can't tell my family to go to hell." He rolled his eyes, "Not again anyway." He looked up at the ceiling, "My mother is going to kill me. Shit." He stood up and pulled a beer out of the minibar. When he saw Larry looking down at the beer he sighed, "What? You think I'm an alcoholic too?" Larry shook his head, "No but that is how it starts. A drink or two so you won't think about your problems." Nick shook his head and placed the beer on the table, "I don't need to drink." He looked at Larry, "See? It's no big deal." Larry cleared his throat and sat down in one of the chairs, "So, do you...how are you and Quinn getting along?" Nick shrugged, "I dunno, sometimes she's fine other times she gives me fucking attitude." Larry bit his lip and looked away. Nick rolled his eyes, "Say it." Larry looked over at him, "What?" Nick shook his head, "Whatever it is you want to say. Hell, you're the only one I can talk about this with anyway." Larry shrugged, "It's just that she might not be so moody if you called or took part in Mac's life on a regular basis. Since you found out she was your daughter you've seen her once." Nick rolled his eyes, now sorry he asked, "Anything else?" Larry nodded, "As a matter of fact yes. Why haven't you told your parents they have a granddaughter? Embarrassed about Mac?" Nick shook his head, "No." Larry continued, "What? Your parents are going to be embarrassed to have a black grandchild?" Nick shook his head, "My family is not like that. What is with black people? Y'all think everytime someone isn't overjoyed about something its because you're black." He stood up, "If I had a problem with black people I never would have slept with her and you wouldn't be my bodyguard." Larry nodded and smiled slightly, "Ok, ok, sorry, calm down little man. I'm just trying to figure this out. A child is something to be proud of and whether or not you want to admit it you're embarrassed about Mac and that's why you haven't accepted her and become apart of her life. Why you haven't told anyone." The truth was there was some embarrassment, embarrassment that no matter how many times it was said he still had unsafe sex and now the whole world was going to know.
