Chapter 20

Quinn was sitting on the couch holding Mac when she suddenly began to cry and she wouldn't stop.  She panicked and called her mother,
"Mom, she's crying really bad and I don't know what to do."  Quinn was near tears and her mother could hear the fear in her daughter's voice,
"Ok, calm down.  She's not hungry , wet or need to be burped?"  Quinn sighed,
"Of course not ma, I tried all that.  She's screaming really hard, she looks kind of blue from all the crying."  Lillian looked over at the clock to see that it was ten thirty, if it were a little earlier in the night she would get in the car and drive those four hours to check on her granddaughter,
"How long has she been crying?"  Quinn looked over at the clock,
"Twenty minutes straight now."  Lillian sighed,
"Ok, if she isn't better in another ten minutes you get her to the emergency room.  And call me if you're going."  Quinn nodded as she sniffed,
"OK."  Her mother's heart was breaking,
"Honey don't cry.  She's  probably just having a bad night that's all."  She nodded,
"Ok, let me go try to calm her down, bye."  She hung up and walked back into Mac's room, picking her up out of her crib,
"Oh baby please stop crying.  It's ok, mommy's here.  It's ok."  She sighed as she walked her around, bouncing her up and down.  Sure enough, within the ten minutes her mother had given her, Mac stopped crying.  Quinn decided at that moment that she was not going to work. She went into her office and emailed her boss' account at work and let him know Mac was not feeling well, she had a feeling she would be up late with her and that she wasn't going to be at work the next morning.  She went to her bed and after a couple more of Mac's crying spells, they both fell asleep with Mac on her chest.

The next morning, Mac seemed to be perfectly fine, last night was almost like a dream.  She called her mom at worked and let her know Mac was ok, then she dialed Chris' number at her office,
"Hello, Chris-"  Quinn laughed,
"Shut that bullshit up,  I don't want to hear that long ass monologue."  Chris went through this long speech of her name, the company's name and her department, Quinn hated hearing it and finally Chris told her to cut her off so she didn't waste it on Quinn,
"Hey girl.  What's up?"  She sighed as she lay back on the couch,
"Nothing, I'm tired.  Mac was screaming almost all night and I decided to stay home from work to make sure she was ok.  Of course the little turd is fine and full of energy and now I'm tired as hell.  I just want to sleep."  Chris groaned,
"Ah sweets I'm sorry.  Send her on the road with her daddy, now that he knows about her."  I groaned,
"Oh yeah, I can see it now.  He'll have her up in the club to make it easier to get girls."  She laughed,
"And onstage, not thinking about the loud music."  I began to picture Mac with her dad,
"Can you imagine her with Nick?  She'd have a red bandana on her head and an ugly bright orange shirt with mixmatched Converse."  She groaned,
"Please don't let him buy her clothes.  Tell him to just send the money and you'll buy the clothes.  Speaking of money, I don't mean to be rude but how much..."  Quinn smiled as Chris' question hung in the air incomplete,
"A few thousand a month."  Chris shrieked,
"A few thousand! Like how many?"  Quinn shook her head,
"You think he was going to give me $200 a month?"  Chris exclaimed,
"So it's two thousand a month?"  Quinn smiled,
"Two is a couple, I said a few, which is more than two.  Now let's leave it at that.  But I will say its less than five thousand."  Chris sighed,
"Damnit, I need to find Justin Timberlake.  Hell, Howie or Lance will do."  I shook my head,
"It's not worth it.  I love Mac but it's not worth it Chris.  Enjoy your life."  Chris kept going,
"Quinn, you don't even have to work do you know that?  That on top of your salary.  Jesus, you're rich."  She shook her head,
"I admit I took a few hundred and went shopping for Mac and bought a couple pair of jeans for me but I make sure its going to be there for her, for school."
"Uh hello, Nick is totally going to pay for her college.  It's not like he's living with her and taking care of her.  The least he can do is pay.  When is the last time you talked to him?"  Quinn shook her head,
"I haven't talked to him since that day I called and told him about her singing to his song.  He told me to call back that night and I did but his phone was off."  Chris frowned,
"That's the last time you've talked to him?"  Quinn nodded,
"Yeah."  She hated to admit it and she hated to see that the prince really was a frog but it looked that way,
"Quinn that was three weeks ago.  Has he tried to call you and you guys have been missing each other?"  Quinn shook her head,
"Nope and every time I call his phone is either off or there's no answer.  I've left messages.  I guess he's just ignoring me."  Chris sighed,
"I am SO going to kick his ass he can not...hey, I gotta go we have a meeting.  Everyone is walking into the conference room now.  I'll call you back later ok?"  Quinn nodded as she wiped away a tear,
"Yep, bye."  She sighed as she stood up,
"Might as well do some laundry."  She walked by the playpen and smiled sadly as Mac played with a toy,
"You deserve better than this baby.  I'm so sorry for being so stupid."
