Chapter 11

It was 8:30 Thursday night and Quinn was sitting in the airport with Mac waiting for Christina to appear.  She looked up on the board to see that her planed had arrived, she wished she could go to the gate and meet her.  As she waited for her best friend an older couple walked over and smiled at Mac,
"Oh she is just adorable."  Quinn smile,
"Thank you."  The woman looked up at Quinn,
"Is she your daughter?"  Quinn's smile never dropped.  She was used to people being confused by her and Mac.  Even in this day of interracial couples and biracial kids it was still a shock to people,
"Yes."  The older couple glanced at each other before continuing to smile at Mac who was now in on the act and returning a toothless smile.  They waved goodbye to her before looking up at me,
"You have a beautiful daughter."  She smiled, unsure of what to say so she repeated what she said before,
"Thank you."  She never knew what to say to the comment of having a beautiful, cute, pretty, whatever the word people use, baby.  They aren't saying she looked good, she thought.  Just as she turned back around she saw a group of people walking towards her and began to search desperately for Christina. Once she saw her she began to walk over, she spotted Quinn making a beeline for her and ran,
"Hi baby, good to see you."  She dropped her bag and leaned down, unbuckling Mac from her stroller,
"MacKenzie you are looking better ever time I see you.  Little Ms. Carter you are going to be a heartbreaker just like your daddy."  Quinn simply shook her head, she was beyond getting upset about Christina for calling Mac variations of Nick's name.  Chris looked over at Quinn,
"Look at her, you have to tell him."  Quinn rolled her eyes and Chris put Mac back in her stroller,
"Quinn before I leave Florida Nick is going to know he's a father."  As they walked to luggage pick up Chris pushed the stroller,
"So, you gonna leave Mac with me tomorrow while you go to work right?"  Quinn frowned,
"No."  It wasn't that she didn't trust Chris.  Chris looked over at her,
"Why not?"  It was hard work and she wanted Chris to enjoy herself, it was a vacation for her, she would have time enough on Saturday, Sunday and Monday to see how hard it was to care for an infant,
"You don't need to worry about her.  You can care for her on the weekend.  Relax tomorrow."  Chris nodded,
"Ok.  Oh but so you know.  I did not come to see Miami.  I just wanna chill.  Maybe we can take Mac to the zoo or something."  Quinn nodded,
"Ok, she hasn't been yet.  She won't know what she's looking at but I guess it's a picture opportunity."

The weekend went as planned, lounging and making it more of a fun weekend for Mac than Quinn and Chris.  It was Sunday night and they were sitting on the couch watching TV when Quinn turned to Chris,
"Hey, I need to get her some more diapers and stuff.  Can you watch her while I go to the store real quick?  She shouldn't wake up."  Chris nodded,
"Of course."  Quinn was on her way out the door,
"You forgot your purse."  Quinn shook her head,
"I don't need it."  Chris nodded as she went back to watching the movie.  She heard a cell phone and went over to the counter but it wasn't her phone, it was Quinn's.  She went back over to the couch but looked back over at Quinn's phone.  She stood up, grabbed her phone and began to look through the numbers; of course Nick's number wasn't in there.  Damn it, Quinn.  She got another idea and smiled when she found Larry's number.  Her heart raced as she dialed the number and it began to dial,
"Hello?"  She took a deep breath,
"Hi, this is Chris, I'm Quinn's friend, we met when her and Nick used to hang out.  I was the girl who was always with her."  He quickly jumped in,
"Yeah ok, I think I remember.  Is she and MacKenzie ok?"  She was so nervous, she knew Quinn was going to be angry if she found out,
"Yeah, they're fine.  Look, there is something I need to tell you.  Well actually Nick but I can tell you. I know you and Quinn are friends and you'll know what to do with what I'm about to tell you but you can't tell Quinn I told you this."  She waited for him to agree,
"Ok, I won't.  What is it?"  She took a deep breath and slowly released it,
"I don't know how you are going to tell her you know, I'm sure she'll ask."  The last thing she wanted to do was lose Quinn,
"Ok, whatever it is I won't tell her I got it from you.."  She closed her eyes and said what was going to open a can of worms that she couldn't put back in,
"She didn't want him to know, but he needs to know.  Nick is Mac's dad."
