Chapter 54

Walking through the gate that night in the airport it only took a couple of seconds before I see Chris.  We run to each other and hug tightly and I look over to see a blonde standing near us watching.  It had to be Marnie, she had thick shoulder length hair and big round green eyes.  I smile as Chris releases me,
"Hi, I'm Quinn."  She nods and smiles faintly,
"I'm Marnie."  My eyes were almost drawn to her fake breasts, which were shown off by her low cut blouse.  I guess if you're going to pay thousands you should get your money's worth.  Her low rise beige pants look like they are straight out of a magazine and I feel like I'm looking at a real live Barbie doll.  I've never known high maintenance girls like this.  We make our way through the airport and to the rental car with Chris driving and me in the back seat, I'm feeling like a third wheel already.  Once we were on the highway and on our way to the hotel Chris turns down the radio,
"Ok Quinn, what's Nick doing tonight?"  I shrug and keep my eyes on the passing buildings,
"I don't know.  The last time I talked to him was Thursday when he gave me the flight info.  He told me to call when I got here so he could tell me his room number."  I look through my purse and pull out my phone.  I dialed his number and got no answer, I hate voice mails so I hang up and call Larry's cell phone, smiling that I was able to get a hold of him when he answered,
"Hey Larry, it's Quinn.  I'm in Atlanta."  I could hear Marnie and Chris in the front seat,
"Who is Larry?"
"Nick's security."  They eagerly await news as I talk to Larry about his son and his son's football game,
"Um, I don't know, hold on.  How close are we to the hotel?"  Marnie turns on the light,
"We're near Lennox, we should be there in like fifteen minutes."  I nod,
"Give us about fifteen or twenty minutes.  We're near the mall right now."  I laugh and we chat for a while then I hang up,
"Nick is in room 2308, he's got a little cold. They went to the mall today and there's some high school state cheerleading convention here in town, they were at the mall today."  Chris laughed,
"Oh my God.  Did they jump him?"  I laugh,
"Larry said there was like hundreds of them and they all had cell phones.  Once he would get away from one group, it was like a little network, they would call their friends and let them know what direction he was headed."  I shake my head at the sight, I mean you can only handle that for so long right?  At first it's cute and you want to make everyone happy but after a while you just want peace and quiet right?
"He said he knew Nick couldn't take it anymore when Nick looked at him and he looked like he was about to cry."  We laugh and Marnie turned towards me,
"Was Nick around?"  She looks like Nick's type and I knew he was going to like her, she would definitely take the nervousness I'm going to have away when it comes to all the flirting Nick and I had been doing on the phone.  I'll sacrifice her.  Yeah, some sacrifice, I wouldn't mind someone sacrificing me like that,
"Nick was up in his room, Larry told me to call his cell when we made it to the hotel."

We make it to our room and everyone has to check their make up and clothes before we met Larry at the elevator on Nick's floor.  As soon as the doors open Larry turns to face us and I jump towards him,
"Hi."  He tries to keep a straight face but my frown matches his and I use my fist to gently tap him under the chin,
"Smile for me."  He fights it and finally gives in,
"Good man.  You remember Chris and that's Marnie."  He nods at them both and we walk down the hall with our arms on each other's back,
"So how sick is he?"  Larry laughs,
"He's just a little sick...but he's a baby."  I nod,
"So he's acting as if he's on his death bed."  Larry sighs and nods his head,
"You know it."  We stop in front off Nick's door and Larry knocks; I glance over at Chris and Marnie quickly before Larry uses a key and opens the door.  He calls out,
"Hey, Quinn is here."  We stand near the door and watch as he comes out of the bathroom with a wifebeater and a pair of sweatpants,
"Hi, I'm sick."  He walks over and I wrap my arms around him,
"Awwww poor baby, are you ok?"  I place my hand on his forehead and Larry snorts,
"Oh please don't encourage him."  I smile and stand next to him and I notice designer Barbie has his attention,
"Nick, you know Chris and that's Marnie.  She's Chris' friend from Charlotte."  He gives Chris a hug and Marnie is pleasantly surprised as Nick gives her a hug too.  The sour look on my face doesn't go unnoticed as I lock eyes with Larry before walking over and sitting on his bed.  This should be one interesting trip.
