| Chapter 40 Friday night before the concert I'm actually backstage, it seems so unreal. Kristin and Leighanne are here and they're sitting on a couch talking with Kevin and Brian. Nick comes over to me and smiles, "Why are you standing in the doorway?" I shrug, "I don't want to get in the way." He pulls my hand and we sit on another couch near the married couples, "Hi Quinn." I look over and smile at Kevin, "This is my wife Kristin, Kristin this is Quinn, Nick's friend...and the one I spilled the drink on in the mall, remember?" She smiles at me after rolling her eyes at Kevin, "Yeah I remember that story. Hi Quinn, I like your name." I'm barely able to look at her, "Thank you." The silence was broken by Kevin once again, "And this is Leighanne." She nods and smiles at me and I raise my hand to wave a little hello, "Hi." The inquisition is on as she leans back into Brian's arms, "So Quinn, you live in Boston?" I shake my head, "No, Miami." She smiles and before she can say anything else Nick stands up and pulls me with him, "Come on." I smile at them and allow him to lead me away. We walk down the hall and he suddenly stops and leans against a wall, "I forgot we're having a BBQ tomorrow at some park. We're playing softball and volleyball and hanging out, eating. Do you have the right kind of clothes?" I frown as I think about it, "No, we'll have to go to a store. Will we have time?" He nods, "You think Elliott would want to come?" I nod, "Yeah, he's the athletic type." He frowns and laughs, "Really?" I roll my eyes and lightly punch him in the arm, "All gay men aren't into pink ruffles and glitter. Will we have time?" He smiles and nods at someone as they walk by, "Yeah, some people are leaving early to get things ready but most of us won't get out there until like eleven or twelve. We can stop by a store on the way there." I smile, "Thanks. I'm gonna go find Elliott." He pulls my arm, "You hung out with him and Eric all day and left me in my room by myself." We begin to walk back to the dressing room in silence and suddenly he turns to me, "Hey, why do you park in a driveway and drive on a parkway? That's so weird." I look at him and it takes everything I have not to laugh at him. Who thinks about such things? Does it really matter. After the concert Lisa, Nick, Elliott, Eric and I pile into the back seats of the van and Larry climbs up front, "So, where's the nearest K-Mart or Target?" Larry looks back to answer Nick's question, "There's a Wal-Mart a few blocks from the hotel, it's open 24 hours now may be the best time to get whatever it is you need." Nick looks over at me, "You want to get the stuff now." I nod and look over at Elliott, "You wanna go now?" He shrugs, "Sure, better than waking up early." We make our way to Wal-Mart and we all pile out. We were walking down the aisle and I took a can of deodorant and sprayed it on Nick, "Whew, you stink." He shakes his head, "I was on stage for two hours give me a break." I laugh and we make our way to the women's department, "Here, you should get this?" I look over and frown as I shake my head, "A bra and panties? No thanks, I don't wear-" I shake my head and turn back to the shorts, "You don't wear what? I know you wear a bra....wait, you don't wear underwear?" I smile, "You better not tell anyone." He comes over to me, "No way, let me see." I squeal as I pull out of his grasp as he pulls at my pants, "Stop you pervert." I turn and I'm face to face with Larry and I jump and place my hand over my chest, "God you scared me. I didn't know you were there." He smiles and shakes his head as he goes back to looking around the store, checking for mad fans to jump out of the clothes racks, bodyguards are so anal sometimes but I guess that's what they're paid for, "Where is everyone?" Larry looks over at me, "Eric and Lisa are checking out CDs and Elliott is in the men's department. Do you need shoes?" My eyes widen, "Yeah, I totally forgot. How do you know?" Nick was still looking at the nightwear, "I heard him mention something about needing shoes." I shake my head at Nick as I pick up a pair of black cotton shorts and a white T-shirt, "Let's go, no one needs that." He rolls his eyes and follows me, "I need a sports bra, a pair of white socks and some sneakers." "Cool, let me pick out the sports bra." I look over at him and laugh, "Ok." This should be fun.
