Chapter 5
Nick and Tommy finally made it to their hotel in Mexico City after a little hang up at the airport. He never knew forgetting your passport could be so burdensome. Thankfully, he was able to still enter the country, how he didn't know. Well, he knew it was because he was a Backstreet Boy but he thought nothing could get you into a country without a passport, nothing. He wasn't going to begrudge it, he was happy they were so willing to accomodate him. They made it to the front desk and Nick smiled at the young girl who was smiling at him, "Hello sir. Welcome to the Sheraton Maria Isabel. How may I help you?" He loved the accent he thought, as he continued to smile at her, "Yeah, I have a reservation. Nick Carter." She nodded before looking down and begining to type away on her computer. He looked around the lobby and couldn't help but think about how much his life had changed because of his God given talent. He was a little boy he could only imagine living in a place so beautiful. It was like a museum, it wasn't meant to be lived in, dirtied up and ransacked. Which is surely what he would do before departing. "Ok, your suite is ready Mr. Carter. I just need your credit card." He placed his backpack on the desk and looked for his wallet. He pulled it out and smiled as he handed it to her, "Thank you." she responded as she took the card from his grasp. He read her name tag as she swiped his card, Flora. He knew that meant flower in Spanish. Right? He shrugged it off as he waited for his room key. Tommy leaned down on the desk top, "What time do we meet Sydney?" Nick shook his head, "She's going to call the hotel and come meet us here." Tommy frowned, "So she's not staying in this hotel?" Nick laughed, "No, ESPN ain't paying for a whole crew to stay here." Tommy smiled, "How much is our room?" Nick laughed, "I was being cheap. We're in a corner suite." Tommy rolled his eyes and smiled, "How much a night?" Nick laughed and shook his head, "About three twenty." Tommy let out a small gasp and Nick laughed even more, "It's about time I start enjoying my hard work. I can't take it with me, might as well live it up a little." He turned back to see another girl, who was even more beautiful than Flora, standing with her. "This is Carmen, she will show you around the hotel if you like." She made a gesture with her head and out of nowhere a bellhop appeared. He hated when they did that, made him feel like they could probably kill him because they were hidden until they wanted to be seen, or maybe he just wasn't very observant. "Basilio will take your luggage to your room." He nodded as he watched the small guy load their bags, they only had one bag a piece, onto the cart. He held out his hand, "Please." and motioned for Nick's backpack. He handed it over and watched Carmen step from behind the front desk, "If you will follow me please." Her smile remained on her face and he and Tommy allowed her to lead the way as she began the tour.
There was a knock on the door and he quickly ran over to answer , it had to be her. Once he opened the door he smiled like a kid, "Hey." She smiled, "Hi." He grabbed her and wrapped his arms around her as he picked her off her feet and hugged her. She laughed and patted his back, "I just saw you like five days ago." She just didn't know how long those five days were for him. She walked past him and shook her head as she turned in a circle, "Wow, this is like my house. This is crazy." He nodded, "Taking your advice." She frowned and he closed the door before walking over and draping his arm over her shoulder, "Enjoy the fruits of my labor. If I remember correctly." She nodded, "Boy are you ever." Tommy walked over and she waved at him, "Hi Tommy. What's up?" He shook his head, "Nothing much, still trying to get used to this room." Nick rolled his eyes at his comment. Tommy had been on the road with him many times. He knew how they travelled and were treated. Granted, they didn't stay in places like this all the time, he had to admit, the room took his breath away when they first walked in. She looked up at Nick, "So, give me a quick tour before we head out to go sightseeing." He wished she would somehow forget between her own hotel and his that she wanted to sightsee, "Let's just hang out here. There's a pool, its even heated, the jacuzzi, tennis court, the gym. There's even a beauty salon. You can hang out here all day." She rolled her eyes as she pulled him by his hand, "I can see all that tomorrow. I want to go out and sightsee, I've never been to Mexico Mr. World Traveler." He sighed, "OK, but can we do what I want tonight?" She reluctantly agreed, "Ok, I guess that means going to a club." He laughed, "Of course it does." But he would trade that in gladly for one night in bed with her. He wished he could say that but it wouldn't leave his throat. And he was scared of the reaction if it did.
They picked up Sydney and one of her crew members, Hannah, from their hotel and headed to Bar Mata, the first destination of the night. It was suggested by the concierge at the Sheraton. "Nick, Hannah likes your music." He smiled at her, Sydney was sitting between them in the backseat, "Oh really? Cool." He saw Sydney frown at him and he questioned her with his eyes. What more was he supposed to say? He leaned forward, "So what do you do for ESPN Hannah?" She smiled over at him after she gave a quick glance to Sydney, "Production assistant." He nodded his head and looked out the window. "She's from Westfield." Why is Sydney giving me facts about Hannah? I really don't care I just want to get to this bar. I threw an 'I don't know what you're talking about' look at her and she sighed, "New York. Westfield, New York. Isn't there near where you're from?" I frowned, "I'm from Tampa." Sydney sighed, "But you weren't born there." Yeah, I wasn't born there but it's my home. What was the use in claiming Jamestown when I moved from there before I even started kindergarten? "No, I was born in Jamestown." Hannah joined the conversation at this point, thankfully saving me, at least temporarily, "Jamestown and Westfield are about thirty-five or forty-five minutes away." Sydney smiled, "You two were like neighbors and didn't even know it. Small world huh?" He sighed and stared out the window again. It was a lost cause, once they start trying to hook you up with other people there is definitely not the tiniest bit of interest. Over time maybe he could accept it, but that didn't mean he wanted Sydney of all people to try and hook him up. He could hook himself up besides, not to be mean or anything and he knew he wasn't the fittest person in the world, Hannah was just a little 'too much' for him. He liked what he liked and he liked them thin. "Hannah is a great dancer. She's going to embarrass you on the dance floor." For the love of God, why couldn't Sydney just drop it before she embarrassed everyone. |
