| Chapter 4 It was another day, another outfit and another man she charmed into spending a lot of money. You have a wonderful eye. She smiled at him; holding her head down and looking up into his eyes as she smiled, Thank you. And beautiful eyes. Ordinarily a compliment from a handsome man might throw a younger woman off but she was accustomed to compliments and she was accustomed to the type of compliments she received; they were the same ones. Her eyes, her skin, her lips, her neck, her long legs they were all praised. When you had the genes she did, it was hard to not come out looking pretty. She wasnt stroking her own ego, she was just praising her parents good looks. Thank you again. She escorted him to the counter and begin to ring up his purchase. It was unbelievable to her; the amount of money one item could cost. The when you added twenty other items it was just ridiculous. Before she could tell him the total he handed her his credit card. She couldnt wait until she was at that point in her life when she didnt have to look at a price tag. I hope you dont think me too forward, she knew where this was going, but would you like to get together for dinner over the weekend? She noticed he didnt bother to ask if she were dating anyone. It was as if that really didnt matter, Dont tell me its against store policy to date the customers. This isnt a law firm or a doctors office. No, thats not it. The only available time I have over the weekend is Sunday evening. He smiled, Perfect. He pulled a business card out of his breast pocket and handed it to her, Call me tomorrow and well make plans. She finished the transaction and walked him to the door. Have a good day. He simply smiled as he left the store. ** She was sitting at the kitchen table typing away on one of the numerous papers that were due at some point in time before the end of the semester. Her cell phone that was sitting on the table with all her books and papers began to ring. She lifted notes and study guides until she found the phone, Hello? Hello sweetheart. How are you? She sat back and settled into her chair, Hi mom. How are you? Her mother lived in Atlanta. She went up twice a year to visit her and her little brother. Wonderful baby. How is school going? Her mother didnt try to discourage her from giving up the school track. Her mother never went to school. She married welltwice. Its going well. I cant complain too much. Its a bit of work but I guess its not supposed to be simple. Hows Lance? Her little brother was twelve years younger than her and the son of her mothers second husband. Hes doing well. Hes in some entrepreneurial program his fathers company runs, and get this honey, Im so excited. The local access channel has decided to have a weekend news program for kids and they are looking to put Lance in one of the anchor roles. She was sure it had everything to do with the fact that their mother also worked for the local access channel in Atlanta. She was a local celebrity, popping up at local charity events, fashion shows and the likes. Thats good since he wants to be like his father and Donald Trump anyway. Her brother was addicted to The Apprentice; he never missed an episode. He even used the TiVo and saved every episode since the first season. She thought it was quite strange for a fourteen year old to be so driven on one path. Unlike most kids he never wavered in what he wanted. Never any aspirations of being a firefighter, police officer or astronaut. I have to tell you something honey and I dont want you to get upset. She sighed, Well, dont tell me then. Whatever it was, it was going to upset her. Her mother new that, thats why she said it. Bradley has been calling. He wants to talk to you. She nearly dropped the phone. It had been so long since she had heard that name. Mom- Honey, hes been calling for a while now but I told him I dont think you want to talk to him. I didnt even tell him you moved to Florida. Good, keep it that way. She no longer wanted to talk, she no longer wanted to do any homework, I have to go mom. She hung up and turned her phone off. Once she was dressed with a reflector belt around her waist she entered out into the cool night air to run away from the problem that entered into her life. 005 | No Ordinary Girl |
