Chapter 24

She wasnt surprised to see that Derek had finally gotten a little action.  She was surprised that they all werent banging every cute thing that walked by.  It was Jamaica; there was plenty of ass, international and domestic, to go around.  Surely, if she werent there, their vacation would be one big sleepover.

Once she had slipped out of her clothes she threw her robe on and grabbed her towel.  She headed to the bathroom to take a shower.  She didnt bother to wear a shower cap as she thought back to being dunked under water while she looked in the mirror.  She hadnt gone through the hassle of straightening her hair again.

They went to one of the marinas for breakfast.  The view from outside was too tempting and they settled on the porch under an umbrella.  She crossed her legs and extended her top leg out and admired her shoes.

Do you have a thing for your shoes?

Yes, the bond between a girl and her shoes should not be taken lightly.

She planned everything she wore down to the underwear.  Today was the most concealed she had been the entire week.  She wore a pair of subtle orange crop pants with an orange, yellow and blue belt and a yellow tank top.

You look good in colors.  I tend to get stuck in grays and black all the time.

Thats easy colors to make an outfit but its way too safe.  Men are afraid of color.  Makes them question their manhood, I think.

And youre an expert?

Yes, Ive been selling mens clothes off and on for about five years now.

And why is that?

Because its easy to sell clothes to men, and its fun, and its nice money.  Nothing like a major league baseball players bonus for making the All-Star team let alone his salary but its always paid the bills.  Especially during the holidays.

Just the thought of her commission checks during the holidays made her smile.

Nice money?

Great money.

The waitress brought their orders to them and she marveled at his food.  Fruit, croissants, eggs, bacon and sausage.

Are you going to be working during the holidays?

Her own breakfast was a lot less heavy.  Fruit, English muffin and a cup of tea.

Christmas Eve we close at four and from there Im flying up to Atlanta to be with the family.

Are you staying with them for a while?

She spread a little butter on her muffin, Ill be back in Orlando before New Years.

She turned the conversation on him, Where will you be for Christmas?

With my family in New Jersey.

And then New York for New Years?

No, I havent figured out where New Years is going to be.

You dont want to see the ball drop in Time Square?

Ive done New Years in New York.  Ive even done in out of the country.  I dont know what I want to do this year.

He looked up at the bright sun, made possible by the sunglasses on his face.  It didnt get past her that they were Versace.

Im thinking something small.  Ive never hosted my own New Years party.  Maybe Ill do that in Tampa.  I dont know.  What about you?

No clue.

She noticed a couple of women off to the side admiring her breakfast companion.  Looks like you have a couple more fans.  Want me to leave so I dont mess up your groove?

Im all grooved out.

She groaned, Hmm, that rumor about you is true huh?

What rumor is that?

The only stamina you have is on the field.

Now how would anyone know that?

Loose lips sink ships.

No one has ever complained.

Why would they complain?  You're Derek Jeter and the ones who arent so jaded that they think youre actually good are just hung up on the fact that youre Derek Jeter.

She wasnt talking to Ben or one of her friends.  She and Derek had gotten closer but he probably didnt think enough of her to allow her to lay her smartass tendencies on him.

However, thats all predicated on the idea that youre lousy.  And Im sure youre not.  She pushed her plate away, You ready?  Im ready.

He laughed, After all that now youre a little nervous?  Not sure how Im going to take it?

She shook her head.  How could she be so stupid?  Im sorry.  I tend to get too comfortable with people too soon.  I was just joking around.

He left money on the table and smiled as he stood up, I dont mind.  Just as long as you can take what you dish.

She nodded.

And for the record.  Im not delusional about my performance.

They made it back to the street but they didnt head towards the car, Where are we going?

I thought wed do a little shopping.  Are you up for it?

Yeah, Im always up for some shopping.

**

A woman can manage to find anything to buy.

All he had been doing was complaining, good-naturedly, while they shopped.  He gave her a hard time because she wanted to go into every store they passed.

Ok, this is the last store I want to go in and then we can go back home.  I know youre tired.

Im not tired.  Im bored.

She pulled his arm and whined, Aww Derek come on.  Ill make it worth your while.

He smiled, Quick?

Very.

Deal.
