Chapter 99

I stood in front of the full length mirror in my bathroom turning again and again as Cheryl sighed,
Brehan you look absolutely fabulous.  I did but I couldnt help but look at myself.  It was one of those times when you felt like everything was right.  Your hair was flawless, your makeup was radiant, and your clothes fit perfectly.  The mango colored silk top showed enough cleavage to make everyone look yet left them wanting for more.  My ass couldnt look better in my white sateen pencil pants and the lime green sling backs didnt need to be described.
Ok, I know.  Youre right.  Lets go.  We linked arms and made our way out of my place and eventually into the New York City nightlife.
Transportation was on Cheryl.  Not only did Harris, her boyfriend, own many clubs he also owned a car service.  Ten of which were always at his clubs waiting to transport VIPs back to their outrageously expensive homes or hotel suites.  Waiting in the bar was a chilled bottle of champagne.  As I poured a glass I asked,
So, where are we meeting everyone?  Tentatively there were about five of us that were hanging out that night but by the time friends and associates tagged along the number would more than double that Im sure.
The Whiskey.  I always had a good time when I was there and along with the company Im sure it will be an even better than usual night.

So what made you want to see him?  Cheryl screamed into my ear as we were being escorted into the VIP area, You havent seen him in months right?  What made me want to see him was seeing his face on my television on a night when I didnt want to be alone and I wanted to have fun.
I havent seen him in I dont know how long.  Its been a while.  We made it through the maze and found our clique at a table minus the reason I came out tonight.  Ryan, George and Kim were sitting down smiling like the beautiful people they were.  Ryan was a rich kid who went to business school and began working for his fathers Fortune 500 company.  George was a model who on his way to being a big as one could get, for being a male model.  Then there was Kim who was nothing more than a New York socialite whos last name got her into all the parties, clubs and restaurants.  Manhattan was so full of them they were more abundant than the citys infamous sewer rats.  We sat down, after the obligatory hugs and kisses, and the drinking and fun began.

Are you sure hes going to be here?  I leaned into Cheryl and asked.  It was already one thirty and the party of five had already grown to eleven.  She smiled,
You really are antsy to see him?  Why?  You want to get something started with him?  I didnt think it was like that.  I really couldnt explain why I wanted to see him but I just did.  Everything was just so care free when it came to him.  Maybe it was because he couldnt care less about being around me or being with me.
Hell be here.  I called and left a message on his cell phone and told him to call me.  He called me and said that they would come out.  They had a game so itll take some time.  They should be here soon though.  When I looked at her I could see the anticipation and expectancy as she stared at me,
No Cher.  Nothing is going on and I dont want anything to go on.  Im with Steven remember?  She didnt looked convinced, Havent you ever just been around someone and it was cool, no problems, no stress?  She nodded,
Yeah.  Im glad she left it at that because I didnt know what else to say.  I couldnt really explain it myself.  I mean, she was exaggerating though.  I wasnt as if I was stalking him or anything.  I hadnt even thought about until I saw his face on the TV screen.  I dont pine for him, want to be his girlfriend not even his friend really.
Want a drink?  I nodded.  I could use another drink,
A martini, Chambord.  She lifted her hand and out of nowhere came one of the scantily clad waitresses who serviced the VIP.  She didnt have to venture far, each VIP area had its own bar and bartender.  I sipped on my drink, tasting the pineapple juice more than anything else looking around as half the group was dancing around, laughing and carrying on like the life of the party.

He stepped through the threshold and he was looking nice.  He made his way around the room smiling, shaking hands and talking with everyone.  He hadnt yet made eye contact with me but before he could make his way to me he settled down next to Malina.  Malina Butler, another one of these dime a dozen socialites who simply did nothing but use daddys money.  Not only was she spending her fathers money she was using it to start her own line of accessories.  Her line of handbags, jewelry, scarves and the like was due our next spring.  Amazing, you fall out the right pussy and the world is offered up on a silver fucking platter.
Cheryl flopped back down after a walk through of the club,
You havent moved at all except to go to the restroom.  Of course I had to go to the bathroom, I needed to coke up just a little.  I knew I couldnt go overboard, photo shoot tomorrow but I needed a little something to keep me right.
Im fine right here.  She pointed to the other side of the room,
Have you talked to him yet?  I shook my head,
No, hes had Malina practically on his lap the entire time.  She laughed and nodded knowingly,
Yeah, shes out for him.  She stood up and made her way over to the other side of the room and to my horror she began to talk to Malina.  It wasnt long before Malina disappeared into the sea of club-goers and Cheryl quickly after but not before saying a word or two and pointing in my direction.
He sauntered over to my side of the room.  The couches were so big three people could comfortable sleep on them.  My shoes were off and my feet were tucked underneath my butt.  He stopped just short of me when someone who came with someone else I didnt know stepped in front of him.  That was thing with in people, the circle got bigger and bigger when different circles combined and soon people who you would never socialize with get labeled as your friend. As he talked he would occasionally glance in my direction.  Finally I gave him an annoyed expression and he quickly wrapped up his conversation and made his way over to me.
He sat down next to me and smiled,
Long time no see.  How you been?
