| Chapter 77 I listened to his phone ring and sighed as the voice mail blared in my ear once again. Sarah shook her head, "Brehan, he's probably asleep. He just finished a concert." I really didn't care if he had just finished a concert besides how could he sleep after the concert he must be on an adrenaline high. I wanted to go out and have a good time and having Sarah and Nick with me meant I could make sure the ball kept rolling on their budding relationship. Nick doesn't know I'm pushing from something to happen between them but with Sarah and me determined to make something happen he didn't have a chance. I looked at her as his phone rang again, "Sare, he's not asleep and if he is he's getting a wake-up call." His voice came through the abruptly, "Hello?" I smiled at Sarah as I sang, "Hello kid. Get dressed we're going clubbing." His voice wasn't groggy but it did sound different. I could hear music in the background and wondered why he didn't answer the phone the first couple of times I called. I could hear a slight groan, "I don't know." That meant yes in my mind. He would have been better off giving me a definitive answer rather than fudging. "We're a couple of blocks from your hotel. See you soon." I didn't give him time to say good-bye let alone protest. Sarah laughed as she shook her head, "Did you even let him speak?" I know that wasn't a question that required an answer and I know she didn't need one anyway. "So, how are you liking him?" We talked before but she was very blas about the whole thing, "I told you. He's cool. I like him." She is always like this. Most times I have to brow beat her to get things out of her. She isn't one to put it out on the line, "Ok but do you like him enough to do something?" She looked at me as if she couldn't believe what I was saying, "I just met him Brehan. Besides, he hasn't tried to make a move or anything." I rolled my eyes, "He's shy Sare. That's why I told you I wanted to hook you guys up so you can make things happen. I thought you were all for this. You seemed interested in hooking up with Nick before." I know Sarah can sometimes just go along for the ride when it comes to putting up with my ways but this was something I'm sure she would enjoy, she didn't have a man at the moment and Nick would be a good transitional fling until she found whomever she was looking for. Then again there is a chance that she might not want to be as care free as she first came of regarding Nick, "You'll just have to make the first move. Try to kiss him tonight and see what happens or something. It's not like he's going to tell you no or anything. After all, he's just a man." She nodded her head and rolled her eyes as if she wanted me to end the entire conversation, "So, is Steven going to make it out? I haven't seen him in a while." This was the first time since he called and told me about the lawsuit that I haven't thought about him in fifteen consecutive minutes. The last thing I want Sarah to know is the problems we are having and why we are having them. Her life has just been too wonderful, her family and her experiences. She just wouldn't understand ninety percent of the things I've done and deal with on an almost daily rate. I don't know what her reaction would be to finding out I started dating Steven when I was sixteen. Sarah didn't lose her virginity until she was twenty and she works with teenage girls on self-esteem and shit like that. I would never escape from her constant need to analyze me and want to help the poor little girl in me. "No, something came up that he has to deal with. He won't be making it out this time." She threw me a sympathetic look and a groan to match and I smiled appreciatively hoping like hell she would just leave it at that. I need to change the subject and quick, "How is Sheila doing?" She released a strangled cry from her throat and I knew my situation with Steven was long forgotten, "She is driving me insane. She has issues with everything I've planned for the event. Funny, coming from a woman who has no class." That may seem harsh to anyone else but I understand everything that woman has put Sarah and Paige through. Paige had a background similar to my own, our parents were peons who were lucky enough to have beautiful children. In my case, my parents bought their model to be. Paige becoming a model and then marrying a successful playwright who was already wealthy beyond belief because of his blue blood put her parents on easy street. Somehow Sheila forgot she wasn't born on Rodeo Drive she moved there from some back alley. Why they bothered to put up with her bullshit is beyond me, fuck that family shit. Family does nothing for you if they aren't the right family. Just because they are your family doesn't mean they are meant to be in your life forever. It's not fair to be attached to people who are nothing like you your entire life. "Tell her to blow it." She shook her head, "I wish I could but you know how it is in my family." Yeah, they had that whole family sticks together crap. Both sides of her family felt that way and Sheila and the rest of Paige's side of the family was good with the guilt trip. Paige was made to feel so bad about all their misfortunes she eventually moved them all out to California and bought them all very nice homes. They weren't able to hijack the gravy train like that until Sarah's dad died. Paige just didn't have the heart or the backbone to stand up to them. "How is Barbara taking it all?" Barbara was Sarah's other grandmother, her father's mother and the light of Sarah's life. She was a wonderful woman and I one day wanted to be just like her. To say I admired her was something of an understatement. "You know her. She's too much of a lady to get involved in the Stoakley crap." I nodded but sometimes I think Barbara is just good at blowing smoke up your ass and is always secretly plotting. She is from Morocco and was almost like royalty or something. She married Mr. Lockeby, who was of British aristocracy, when he was traveling to Morocco on vacation. Soon after they had Sarah's dad and the rest, as they say, is history. When we arrived at Nick's door he was in a bathrobe, "Kid why aren't you dressed?" He sighed as I walked past him, "I don't know what to wear." I shook my head and flopped on the bed, "I'm going to have to train you I see." Sarah shook her head at him and smiled as she walked over to the bed where he had clothes thrown out, "Let's see. These black pants, these black shoes and here, this shirt." As easy as that she picked out his outfit and I smiled at her knowing she loved doing that. I have to admit I like dressing men too. He walked into the bathroom with his clothes and Sarah lay next to me. "We're just lounging on his bed like he said it's ok." I laughed, "Of course it's ok. Everything I do is ok by Nick. He adores me." She gave me a look and I laughed, "He totally adores he. He might not know it yet but trust me the kid's life just wouldn't be the same without me." We laughed. I don't know there was just something about Nick. He had a lot of potential to be one of the hottest stars in the industry he just needed a little help from me. The right woman, the right party and gossip and he would be at the top of every hottest star list. I was particularly ready for him to get out of there so I can take a couple of hits before we left for a little partying. It had been weeks since I have been able to do coke like I'm doing this week and I can tell the difference. I feel a lot better. Chapter 78 Stranger Than Fiction Stories Feedback |
