| Chapter 26 I had to smile at the look on his face when I said he and I were going to be the only ones at my place. My amusement quickly turned to hurt when I noticed he looked like a trapped animal who was ready to gnaw his leg off to escape. I can't say I particularly blame him, I've done nothing but treat him like shit since the moment I met him and he didn't deserve it. It was an honest mistake, well I can't say honest, he was a complete pompous ass to just assume someone with a vagina wanted his autograph. He just sat there and stared out the window and I laughed wryly, "I'm not going to kill you or anything, it's cool." He looked over at me like a kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar. I guess my assumption was correct in thinking he was a little unsure of being with me. "I'm sorry." I don't know where that came from, why I felt the sudden urge to apologize or what I was apologizing for, "It's ok." He smiled uncomfortably and shrugged, "For whatever it is." I couldn't help but return the smile. I kicked my shoes off and stretched out, one of my feet on the floor, the other on the seat. I watched him as he watched me, "So, you're a ladies' man huh?" He looked at me confused and shook his head as he stuttered through his answer, "Uh, well no, I'm not good with, no. Why do you say that?" It was apparent that he got his fair share and then some probably. He was a cute kid, "You had like twenty girls around you." I frowned and closed my as I tried to visualize the scene I had in my head. Twenty, that might have been a slight exaggeration on my part but I'm drunk, I can't even remember how many drinks I consumed, how could I be expected to remember how many sets of breasts were surrounding him. He smiled a little and began to play with his hands, "Just four and I just met them through a friend. Probably never see them again." Never see them again, he looked pretty comfortable with them hanging all over him. Or maybe it was my fault. I did pull him away and never let him go back. My head is spinning and I'm regretting all the drinking I did tonight becasue of Steven. As if he hadn't hurt me enough he called to tell me he was spending another three days in Los Angeles before he returned to New York. What a fucking asshole and I would have told him that had he not pulled a hit and run and hung up on me. He knew damn well that I was leaving for Paris in two days for a runway show. I was going to be there for five days. The rest of the car ride was in silence as I was in and out of sleep and he watched the city go by. I made the driver take Cory home first, she wanted to be dropped off last so she could make sure I was ok. I noticed she looked at Nick when she said that but I assured her there was nothing to worry about and that I would be fine. We stepped out of the limo and made our way up to my place, I noticed his eyes were constantly wandering like he'd never been anywhere like this before. I'm sure his huge mansion in Los Angeles or Miami was the size of the building. Hell, he probably had a mansion in Miami and LA, there was no telling how much money this kid had. I stood before the door and I couldn't manage to get this same door that I had been walking through for the past year to open. He stepped closer to me and took the key from my hand, "Here let me." I handed the key to him and tried to get out of his way but I stumbled and began to fall, the only thing that saved me was when he wrapped his arm around me. He not only kept me from falling but he pulled me towards him to lean on him with one arm. Wow, strong kid. It's so cheesy, like something from a movie, but time did seem to stop for a moment as he looked at me, "Are you ok?" All I can do is nod my head and he held onto me as he unlocked the door then turned to smile at me like a puppy that had just completed a task and was waiting for a treat, "Thanks." He nodded and walked behind me as he kept one hand on my back just in case I lost the ability to walk again. He handed me the key and I tossed it on the counter. He stood there and I turned to him, "Welcome to my home." He looked around and seemed quite impressed, "Wow, this place is like something from a magazine." Why he was so into my place I don't know but then again, he's a kid and although he was rich beyond belief he probably spends all his money on vintage pinball games, five hundred dollar jerseys, exorbitant jewelry and six SUVs. "Have a seat." I dropped my shoes to the floor, why I don't know because I was headed to my bedroom, "I'll be back." I walked into my bedroom and pulled off my shirt before flopping on the bed, there was no way I was going to get these leather pants on, Cory had to help me get them on before. I sighed and put a tank top on after removing girl's best friend, double sided tape and screamed, "Hey! I need you." I lay on the bed, on my back my feet dangling over the edge, "You wanted me?" I just stared at the ceiling, "Pants, I can't get them off. Help me." He walked over and I was shocked when he started to help without asking me some stupid question like was I talking to him. After five minutes of total struggle we finally got them off. I couldn't tell if he was thankful or disappointed that I had panties on, a thong to be exact. And I don't know what I'm feeling about the fact that he just walked right back out of my bedroom without giving me so much as a glance. I pulled off my panties and slipped on a pair of shorts, if you could call them that, they were amlost short enough to be considered underwear. I looked over and saw a picture of Steven and me, we took that picture last spring in Rome, those were better days. He stood behind her with his arms holding her tight as they both stared at the Tiber river. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, "I love you." She turned in his arms and smiled, "Say it again." He brushed her hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear, "I love you. I love you more now than I did yesterday." She licked her lips and stared at him, "We'll always be together right?" He smiled, "You better believe it. I'm a lucky guy." She smiled, "I'm a lucky girl." He held her face gently in his hands and leaned down. She closed her eyes and waited to feel his mouth on hers but when she didn't she opened her eyes to find him staring at her, "What?" He shook his head, "Nothing, I just want to know will you marry me?" Her eyes widened and she placed her hands over his, which were still holding her face, "Are you...really?" The tears formed in her eyes and he nodded, "Yes, I'm still married but in a few months I'm filing for the divorce. My lawyer is getting everything together now. As soon as that's all over, I want to marry you." She didn't say anything, she just stood there and stared. He laughed, "Well? Are you going to leave me in suspense?" She shook her head, "No, I mean yes. Yes, ok. Yes, I will marry you. I want to marry you." He leaned down and kissed her. Those were the days, what the hell happened? They were so happy, she had never been so happy. Now, in the past few weeks, they hardly saw each other. Chapter 27 Stranger Than Fiction Stories Feedback |
