| Chapter 24 She pulled me along and followed until we were in a huge sound proof office, "I was thinking about you the other day when I was in Chicago." Cheryl's boyfriend was the owner of several clubs, a couple of which I frequent when I'm in town, that's how we got to know each other. She and I messed around once, at her request, she was curious but it wasn't something she was into doing so we became strictly friends. "What were you thinking about?" She smiled, "I haven't seen you since your Maxim issue came out. I'm just happy for you. I'm glad everyone is getting to see you and you're getting the recognition you deserve." I couldn't help but smile, "Thanks Cher." She nodded and went over to the minibar, "Brandy, cognac?" I nodded, "Both." She raised her eyebrows, "Want to talk?" I nodded and sighed as I kicked off my shoes, "Sure, but not about my shit. How are you doing? What were you doing in Chicago?" I closed my eyes as she talked, "Harris is thinking about opening a club there and I tagged along." Cheryl was able to do that, tag along, I don't think she really had a job except for be Harris' girlfriend, hey the benefits were great, good for her. She lived in an amazing apartment with him, actually they owned an entire floor in the building and it was transformed into one huge amazing home with the most amazing view in the city. She did work the clubs for him but more than anything she just partied, having the boss' girlfriend, who really did look out for his best interest, seemed to keep employees honest. "Guess who I ran into the other day? You wouldn't believe it." If I wouldn't believe that meant I couldn't guess either but I went along with her game, "Guy or girl?" She smiled, "Girl." I shook my head, "Nicole?" She shook her head and laughed, "Nia and she's preggers." My eyes were wide, "What? But I thought her husband had the operation last year, the big snip." She nodded her head, "He did." I shook my head, Nia was a former model who quit working when she married a big time CEO, we hardly saw her anymore now that she was living the high society life, "Who's the father?" She snorted, "You can't get anymore cliche, her personal trainer." I laughed, "Must have been some good training." We lay back and laughed as we continued to drink. "Fucking Steven, I've done everything for him." Cheryl placed her hand on my thigh, "What did Steven do to you now?" I frowned, "Huh? How did you know?" She smiled sympathetically, I hate when people smile at me like that. It's like they are thinking poor thing and act like I don't know it, "You just said something about him. What's wrong?" I shook my head and sighed, "He's just an asshole. Fuck him, no, no way. Can I use your cell phone?" She pointed at the desk, "Just use the phone, it's over there on the desk." I struggled to get up and tripped over one of my shoes, "Are you ok?" I nodded, "Yeah." I dialed Steven's number, how I was able to remember with all the alcohol I had consumed I don't know. "Hello?" I listened for a moment, to see if I could hear anything in the background on his end but I couldn't, "Steven-" "Brehan, you called to apologize?" He was such an ass. Why did he have to be that way? "What do you mean have I called to apologize? If I don't you don't want to talk to me?" He cleared his throat, "That's what I told you before." I shook my head and turned my back to Cheryl, "Steven why are you being like this? Why are you treating me like this? What did I do?" I was practically begging and I hated myself for it but I didn't want to lose him, "Why am I being like what? Tired of you accusing me of stupid shit all the time Brehan? It's old and I don't want to deal with it anymore. Lately, you just changed." I shook my head, "I haven't changed." He sighed, "You're clingy and needy." I wiped a tear from my eye, "You're never around anymore-" That was it, he was pissed now and he started to scream, "I have a fucking job Brehan. You know, making sure you always have a job. You think things just happen on their own. You know I just lost my partner, now I have to take care of everything. Give me a fucking break, you need to get your shit together. I'm not your damn babysitter." I shook my head and screamed, "I know, you're my boyfriend and I exect you to act like it. We're supposed to get married-" He let out a nasty laugh, "Married? Not with the way you're acting. I may have to reconsider that." He had never said anything like that before and it was like a kick in the stomach, "What? Wait, Steven." It was too late he had already hung up. Cheryl walked over and placed her hand on my back and I shrugged it off, "Sweetie, just give it some time." I shook my head, "No, I can't. I need to talk to him." I called back and there was no answer, "Damn, pick up the phone." His voice mail picked up and I hung up and tried again. After my third attempt, he answered, "Hello?" Hello like nothing had happened, like he didn't know it was me calling. "Steven, talk to me." He sighed, "What do you want? I'm busy." I was ready to apologize but once I heard giggling and a woman's voice in the background I flipped, "Who is that? Steven, who's that girl?" "Brehan, that's it. Forget it, do not call me, I'll call you." "When?" "When I feel like it." I grunted, "Don't worry about it. I'll be busy tonight." He laughed, "I'm sure you will, between some bitch's legs. Whatever Brehan." That was it, he hung up and I didn't care if he would answer or if he turned his phone off, I wasn't calling back. I turned and looked at Cheryl and she walked over and began to fix my makeup, "Don't cry over him Brehan, he's a dick. Find someone new." I nodded my head, "I know you're right. Come on, I want to have fun." We walked out the door and I scanned the room, looking at Nick as he stood there with four girls surrounding him as Steven's words played in my ear, "I'm sure you will, between some bitch's legs." Nope Steven, not some bitch. Chapter 25 Stranger Than Fiction Stories Feedback |
