| Chapter 1 As I walk down the hall all I can think about is all the things that I don't want to go wrong. How I don't want to say the wrong thing, how I don't want to spill anything on anyone or better yet myself and my worst fear, falling on my face, is scrolling across my mind like a huge marquee. This isn't my first day on the job but it is my first day working along side any of the company's clients. It was the middle of my sophomore year in college when I watched how a talented public relations effort could save someone's career. My first thought was the obvious, politics. However, I don't have the stomach to protect the biggest crooks and immoral people in the country, who just happen to be our leaders. So, the best choice for me was entertainment. At least the wrongdoings of celebrities weren't ones that could harm millions of people who were depending on them to make their lives better. Besides, I've always had a disdain for the so called journalists of today so sticking it to them in some little way makes me happy. I hear the voices inside Leonard's, my boss, office. His secretary isn't here and I take the opportunity to try and get an upper edge. Hey anyway you can right? "-she's been with us for sixth months. She'll be assisting Pete." A voice I had never heard before responded, "Six months? It can get really crazy with us. Do you think that would be enough experience?" I try not to take that personally because he doesn't know anything about me. Besides six months isn't a lot of experience in anything, "Trust me I wouldn't throw her into the fire with you guys unless I thought she was ready. She's quick on her feet and besides there are only so many things that are going to come up right? Girlfriends, breakup rumors, band wars, that's about all you guys are going to have to deal with." There was a knock, "Knock on wood. Let's hope so." They laughed and I look around to make sure I haven't been spotted, "She should be here any minute. I just called her." I smooth out my dark gray suit before I knock on the door and peak inside, "Priscilla come in." I smile as I look directly at Leonard, I'm entirely too nervous to look anywhere but out of the corner of my eye I can see him stand, "Priscialla Maisonave meet Kevin Richardson." I look over and extend my hand, "Kevin Richardson meet Priscilla Maisonave." I gave the firm handshake all women were taught to give men in the business world, "Hello, nice to meet you." I was about to call him mister but it just didn't feel right, he wasn't old enough. He smiled, "Nice to meet you too Priscilla." His outstretched hand directed me towards an empty chair, "I was just telling Kevin you will be assisting Pete with public relations for the Backstreet Boys." I nod, that's it. I knew he looked all too familiar but I didn't know his name. The only names I knew were AJ and Nick. Those were the names that seemed to stick out like Justin and JC from NSYNC. I wonder if he would really be pissed if I told him I tended to like NSYNC songs more. They were upbeat, funky and I could dance to them. The Backstreet Boys were good for those lovey dovey syrupy 'I'll never do you wrong' love songs and since love was the last thing on my list those songs really weren't in my musical rotation. "You'll be joining the guys when they meet up for the second leg of their tour." I nod and smile as I glance over at Kevin, handsome guy. I give Leonard my attention when his voice breaks the brief silence, "Here is your intenirary, read over that and if you have any questions let me know." I nod and Kevin enters the conversation, "If you have any pre tour questions that I can answer fire away now." I smile and shook my head, "Oh no Mr. Richardson, I'm fine but if I have any questions I'll feel free to ask." He looked over at Leonard then smiled back at me, "Ok and you can call me Kevin." I nod, "Ok Kevin." I look over at Leonard, "Is that all you need from me? If so, I'll get out of your way and look this over." I held up the folder he handed me, "That will be all, I just wanted you to know who you would be working with for the next few months." I stood and smiled, offering my hand to Kevin once again. He stood and took a firm grip, "I'm sure it'll be a pleasure." He nodded and smiled and stood until I walked out the door and closed it behind me. Home Total Control Chapter 2 |
