Chapter 88

"So there has always been this thing that the quiet good girls are really the bad girls.  Do you guys believe that?"  The crowd began to cheer as Meredith frowned comically,
"Really?"  Starr looked over at her,
"Meredith, haven't you ever heard about the PKs?"  Joy chimed in with Meredith,
"The PKs?"   Starr laughed,
"We had a saying that the preacher's kids, the PKs, were always the baddest kids.  And some of the girls weren't exactly the holiest if you know what I mean?"  The crowd clapped and laughed,
"Maybe it goes for guys too, you think?"  Joy frowned as she ran her hand over her hair,
"What do you mean?  That they are the best to have sex with?"  Meredith nodded,
"Yeah, instead of the muscle-bound guy who talks a lot you should go for the quiet shy guy or the geek.  Take Nick Carter back there-"  Starr interrupted,
"He's no geek, I think a lot of women find him attractive."  The crowd clapped and she continued once they settled down,
"You know me, I'm all about equal opportunity, he may be a little too young for me but that's one cute white boy."  Meredith laughed,
"No, he's not a geek but he seems kind of quiet and shy but then I read this."  She held up the page of him in the Cosmo magazine,
"One of the interns was reading this yesterday and look at him in handcuffs."  Nick began to blush as he watched them go over some of his answers and promised the audience they would talk to him about it when they came out.  AJ looked over at him and smiled slightly,
"Who knew so many people read Cosmo, good thing you're single, the amount of women who are going to get with you is about to double."  He rolled his eyes and tried to hide his embarrassment,
"Well bring em on, I'm ready."

They retured from commercial after performing; AJ, Howie and Brian on the couch, Nick and Kevin on stools behind them.  Meredith and Starr were interviewing them when Meredith started up,
"Ok, the song was great, you guys were great and the CD, which comes out Tuesday will be great.  Now that that's out of the way. Nick, you freak, tell us more.  How kinky are you?"  He laughed and covered his face as AJ turned towards him,
"Yeah Nick, how kinky are you?"  He laughed,
"Whew boy, man.  I'm not, I'm a good boy."  He put on an innocent face and Starr pointed,
"See that face?  Don't let it fool you.  Now, what would your momma say after reading something like that?"  Nick waved his hands in front of himself,
"Don't believe any of that, I don't know where they got all those answers from."  Meredith smiled,
"Sure, but speaking of your mom, I'm kind of curious as to what she would say.  Mom, come out here."  Nick looked around and when the crowed cheered he turned to see his mom walking towards them.  He jumped up and ran in the opposite direction as Starr called out,
"No, get back here young man."  He walked back over as his mom was greeted by Starr and Meredith, the standard kisses on the cheek and smiles.  He stood next to his seat and stretched his arm out directing his mom to have a seat as he stood behind her,
"Now Mrs. Carter, you read this article what did you think?"  Nick cringed and covered his face as he held his breath awaiting his mom's reaction,
"I'm still not over that Rolling Stone interview from a couple of years ago.  I can't handle this." Nick placed his hands on her shoulder,
"What are you doing here?  I just talked to you guys a couple of days ago."  She looked over her shoulder at him,
"Aaron is recording."  Meredith laughed,
"So you have another one to deal with soon?"  Jane sighed dramatically,
"If you can believe it, this is the shy one."  He smirked and winked his eye at Starr and she began to laugh,
"Mrs Carter he may be a lot of things but shy is not one of them."  Jane stayed for the rest of the segment and once it was over she and Nick walked back to the dressing room,
"So, how have you been baby?"  He smiled,
"Fine, who else is here?"  She sat down as she watched him gather his things,
"Angel and BJ are with Aaron at the studio."  He looked over at Sally,
"Do we have anything else to do?"  She nodded her head.  She knew how much his family meant to him and she wished she could tell him to go with his mom but they had an interview with Entertainment Tonight who were going to follow them on a photo shoot and a last minute interview with the New York Times that the newspaper wanted to run in the Sunday Entertainment section,
"You have your photo shoot, Entertainment Tonight and an interview with the New York Times."  His shoulders seemed to slump slightly in defeat as he turned to his mother,
"How long are you guys gonna be here?"  She smiled,
"We leave late Sunday afternoon."  Sam walked over and hugged her,
"Hey Jane."  Nick rolled his eyes in good nature, she insisted everyone call her Jane,
"Hi Sam, why don't you guys come hang out with us tomorrow?"  She looked over at Nick and he nodded,
"Yeah, we're here until Tuesday night anyway.  The rest of the guys are flying in tonight."  She walked over and hugged him quickly,
"Give us a call tomorrow and come over to the hotel."  He nodded as returned her hug,
"Ok momma."  He looked up and noticed the others were already gone; Tim held the door for Jane and smiled as she walked out the room,
"Come on little man, they're already on their way to the studio."
