Chapter 82

They were all sitting in their New York City penthouse suite over looking Central Park ready to handle their interviews.  Rolling Stone first, then lunch before they had the People interview.  They were thankful the Seventeen and Teen People interviews were done but they wished those were the ones they needed to do today, they were much easier.  The door opened and the reporter was led in.  They shook hands ith him and all six of them settled into their seats,
"Ok guys, how have you been?"  Brian adjusted himself on the couch, leaning on the arm,
"Tired, it's been crazy.  Way too much."  The reporter raised his eyebrows as AJ picked up where Brian left off,
"You'd think we were putting out our debut CD with everything we're doing.  And it's still not done.  We have to record something for VH1 today, another magazine interview, then we leave and go overseas in about three weeks."  Nick's head was lying back against the chair, why they felt the need to complain to reporters was beyond him.  Whatever, who cares, sure they were a little tired but they hadn't done shit for months and once they started recording that's all they had to do, there were no performances or appearances.  It was like an eight month vacation from the major stress and now that they were back to work full time they were complaining.  They made them sound like whiners, it's not like anyone, epecially reporters, gave a damn,
"It's for the fans, so it's cool."  He didn't even bother to open his eyes or look at them as  Kevin began to talk,
"It's frustrating.  We're all talented, it's frustrating having to prove it all the time.  By now, you would think we wouldn't have to, even to people we shouldn't have to prove it to."  Greg, the reporter, spoke up,
"And those people are who?  The fans?  The record label?  Each other?"  Howie shrugged,
"We love what we do but it can get exhausting sometimes.  People still think of us as a boyband.  I think our fans believe in us.  Sometimes it's like us and our fans against everyone."  There was no way Greg was going to let up,
"You feel your record label has complete faith in you or do you have to prove it to them too?  Do they think you wouldn't be successful if you weren't doing all the publicity?"  Kevin shrugged,
"Yeah, you think that at times.  We've done so much and been through so much, you begin to wonder what do you have to do?  When is it enough?"  Greg nodded and looked at them all,
"The subject of going solo always comes up...who will go first?  Stuff like that.  Nick, you're doing a song for a movie soundtrack, is that a test to see how people will accept you as a solo artist?"  Nick opened his eyes and sat up,
"No, I mean not really,  it was something a friend asked me to do for him and I did, it just became more than both of us thought. I-"  He was just about to speak of going solo when he was interrupted by Howie,
"We're about to put out an album so no one is going solo, we haven't discussed that.  If one of us wants to later down the road we'll talk about it and support each other."  Nick looked down at his hands, the truth was that he HAD thought of a solo album a lot more since he did that song with Scott.  It was fun, Scott took his ideas into consideration.  Some of them he didn't use but a couple he did, and he didn't just shoot them down, he explained why it would be better another way.  He had learned so much and he wanted to try it.
"Nick gets a lot of publicity lately.  Does that bother you guys?"
