Chapter 45

Shayna sat on her balcony with a glass of lemonade in her hand.  She had played her confrontation with Nick in her mind countless times the past few days.  She was proud of herself for telling him no but her heart was still torn.  She rolled her eyes and sighed as she put her glass down and walked back inside to answer the phone,
Hello? She walked back out to the balcony,
Hey girlwhats up?  She smiled,
Hi Craiglong time no hear.  He laughed,
Yeah, how have you been?  She always liked Craig.  Sometimes she wondered why he even put up with Nick, he was so frustrating and sometimes was so unaware of how much people did for him,
Im great and you?
Im wonderfullook, a bunch of us are going out tonight why dont you come with us?  She hadnt hung out with Craig in a long time and she missed him but he was Nicks friend first and she knew Nicks immaturity would see it as Craig not being faithful to him,
Oh, II dont know.
Nick wont be there tonight.  She let out a breath and smiled, Craig was always on it, whatever it was. She had no doubt that Nick had told him they slept together,
Where are you guys going?  She placed her feet on the rails,
Dont know yettheres going to be a group of usbring some of your friends.  She hadnt been out in a while and she knew Craig wasnt wild so it might not be so bad,
Ok, cool, call me when you get the details.  She called Bill and let him know that she was going to hang out with some friends that night.  Like every man, he wanted to know all the details and she patiently told him and laughed when he seemed to almost give his consent.

They were all sitting in VIP when she heard a couple of the guys scream out and jump up.  She looked in the direction they were looking and her stomach dropped.  She felt Natashas hand on her leg as she watched Nick walk over with a tall blonde.  She was gorgeous; there was no getting around that.  Her height was accentuated by her short skirt and her black boots.  She looked over at Natasha and was greeted with a supportive smile.  She looked down as Nick and his date sat down at the table.  She looked up and caught Craigs eyes and smiled awkwardly as he mouthed,
Im sorry.  She looked over at him as he laughed with his friends and rubbed her back.  She remembered when he would rub her back like that, how good it felt, the shivers it caused through her body.  Her eyes connected with his and he showed no emotion as he ended eye contact and leaned over as she whispered in his ear.  He laughed and her heart broke at that moment.  She knew it wasnt fair to be upset.  She had Bill and Nick knew that and had to deal with it, now it was her turn.  She shook her head and looked at Natasha,
Can you go with me to the bathroom? she shouted into her ear.
Yeah.  She barely made it into the restroom before the tears fell down her face.  Natasha pulled her in her arms,
Come onits been over for a while and youre dating someone else.  You were going to see him with someone else sooner or later.  She pulled back and rolled her eyes,
Thanks for the comfort Nat.  I know it doesnt make sense and I have no right to be upset but its not logic its emotions.  Its how I feel, I cant help it. Nat sighed and leaned against the wall,
I know Im sorry I dont mean to be cold about it.  Shayna nodded and wiped her eyes,
I knowand it doesnt help that shes a fucking beauty queen either.  Natasha laughed,
I bet shes nice too and theres no reason to hate her, which makes you hate her more.  Shayna laughed and let out a deep breath,
Yeahcome on, everyone is gonna know why I left.  They walked back to the table and Natasha bumped into Shaynas back as she stopped abruptly,
Hey whats- She looked over at the table and immediately placed her hand on Shayna shoulder.  Nick was caught up in a kiss with her and he looked totally into it.  It didn't look like some club hook up; his hands cupped her face and even though it was intense they still looked sweet together.  Nick and his new girlfriend were the only ones who didn't notice the look on her face.  She turned to Natasha and shook her head before walking out of the club.  As she waited off to the side for Natasha to come out she cried.  Now she understood why couples ended up not sharing the same friends after a break up.
