| Chapter 11 She fell back on the couch after her shower, exhausted from working all day to get her apartment together. She was completely finished with the living room, her bedroom and the bathroom. She hadnt put her clothes away and she had to make a trip to McDonalds because cooking anything was out of the question. Even if she felt like cooking, everything that belonged in the kitchen was still packed. She looked around, it was definitely going to take some time getting used to being in such a small place, life with Nick had certainly spoiled her. She wondered what he was doing; it was Friday night, she thought, of course hes getting drunk with his rowdy friends. He wasnt like that; she never understood why he spent so much time with some of them. She shrugged, not her problem anymore. She muted the television and heard her cell phone ring, Hello? Hi bab...Shayna. There goes her stomach again, Hi. Her heart and her mind were racing, wondering what he was calling about, I tried calling the house but there was no answer. She hadnt seen or talked to him since Monday, I moved out today. There was silence and it was uncomfortable to say the least, Im in my apartment; I have a few things left at your house, Ill get them tomorrow. She could hear him clear his throat, So, where do you live? She felt uneasy, she wasnt sure why but just the thought of him asking, Its about ten minutes from you actually. I know the area, I like it, has all my favorite spots. She felt the need to explain that she wasnt trying to stay close to him or anything weird. He laughed a little, Yeah, I couldnt imagine you not being able to get a gyro from that little Greek place, youd go crazy. She smiled, Yeah. There it was again, the silence. Its true, silence can be deafening. She didnt know what to say. Small talk, she hated it, shed rather not talk, So, what are you up to tonight? Actually, Im in Phoenix with my family. Wow, didnt know that. Then again, it was no longer any of her business, he didnt owe her anything, Thats nice, when did you go? I left Tuesday afternoon. I wont be here long, I leave for LA Sunday morning. She nodded; she remembered it was time to start working on the next album. Sodid you need anything? She wasnt sure why he was calling. They hadnt discussed anything up to then, Uh, I was just calling to see how much more time you needed. I think Craig is tired of me. he said with a slight laugh. A part of her hoped he was calling to ask if they could work it out, obviously that wasnt what he was thinking about. She sighed, Yeah, Im gone, you can tell Craig he has his place all to himself again. Yeah, hell be happy. So, uh, I have to gowere getting ready for dinnerso, uh, bye. She said good-bye and hung up the phone. That was definitely uncomfortable for her; she wondered if that was really why he called. She woke up early that morning and got dressed. There was no way she felt like sitting inside, it was a beautiful day and she was going to get out. Although ending up at the mall wasnt exactly taking advantage of the beautiful weather. She saw one of her friends and ran over to her, Hi Natasha. Her friend hugged her and they squealed in the middle of the mall, Hi stranger. What have you been up to? Havent heard from you in so long. None of her friends knew she and Nick had broke up. Might as well start now and get it over with she sighed, Yeah, its been crazy the past few weeks. Nick and I broke up. Her friend pulled her to the side and hugged her again, Im sorry Shay, I cant believe you guys arent together. What happened? She never told anyone about her personal problems so the fact that she and Nick broke up would seem to come out of left field to everyone. Just some stuff we couldnt seem to get past. Were just different you know that; always have been. We dont share that much in common, if you stop and think about it. Natasha nodded her head, Yeah, thats true. I always wondered how you guys stayed together so long. OK, no bad thoughts, lets go shopping. They linked arms and walked through the mall. Shayna decided to treat herself, everything she wanted; she bought. Home Full Circle Chapter 12 |
