Chapter 109

He followed her down the hallway,
"You hate me."  Shayna laughed,
"Nick, just cause I won't give you some ass doesn't mean I hate you."  As soon as they turned the corner they were greeted by comical looks from his family.  Aaron, his dad and BJ were smiling, his mom was  rolling her eyes and poor Angel looked moritfied.  BJ shook her head,
"I always knew you had to beg for it."  Jane and Bob laughed as Nick groaned and took her hand leading her into the family room,
"BJ shut up.  OK, we have an announcement."  He pulled Shayna into his arms,
"I knew it.  I'm going to be a grandfather."  Jane shrieked,
"What?"  She jumped up off the couch as she shook her head.  Things were always so complicated in this family Nick thought as he watched his mother place her hand gently on Shayna's stomach,
"I would have preferred if you two were married first but I'm going to be a grandma.  Wait, I'm too young, you have to call me Nana or something."  He couldn't just tell his news without the drama,
"No mom-"  Jane wrapped Shayna in her arms,
"We'll go shopping.  Oh if it's a little girl.  This is going to be the prettiest baby in the world.  With the Carter genes AND your looks."  Nick grabbed Shayna from his mother's arms,
"Momma chill out she ain't pregnant."  He sighed as he looked at his father,
"Thanks."  Bob smiled as he shrugged.  Nick pulled Shayna in front of him, wrapping his arms around her waist,
"If we have a baby I promise we'll be married first.  But for now we're just going to move back in together."  The room was quiet and Nick waited for someone to say something.  When they didn't Shayna laughed,
"I know it's not as exciting as a baby but we're back together again.  I'm moving back in with Nick."  Thanks to his dad and his mom the news just wasn't the same, wasn't as exciting.  Angel hopped up and ran over to them, throwing her arms around Shayna,
"I'm happy for you.  You're the best girl he's ever had.  He's lucky."  Shayna smiled,
"I'm lucky too.  He's a good guy."  Angel pulled back and rolled her eyes,
"I know you're just saying that because he's here."  Shayna smiled,
"You know how he does anything for you as a brother?"  Angel nodded,
"He's the same as a boyfriend.  Your brother is a good person, always remember that."  Nick smiled as he watched Shayna interact with Angel.  His sisters were always the most distant with any girl he brought around.  They were always weary but his dad and brother were more inviting when it came to the ladies.  Bob walked over and Nick rolled his eyes as his dad wrapped Shayna in his arms,
"You keep him straight."  She looked over at Nick and smiled,
"I will."  Nick was somewhat surprised when his dad gave him the same treatment,
"She's a keeper." he whispered in Nick's ear.  He felt like he was getting married or something as he looked over and saw his mom huddled over with Shayna, smiling,
"Don't take any of his bad behavior."  He rolled his eyes and pulled his mom into his arms,
"What bad behavior?"  She looked at him and rolled her eyes and he knew he shouldn't push it before she called him out on something,
"Ok, ok.  Well, we're gonna go out on the boat.  We'll see you tomorrow before we leave."  His mom nodded as she released her grip on him,
"What time are you leaving?"  Nick looked over at Shayna,
"I dunno, around noon?"  She nodded,
"Works for me."  Nick grabbed her hand and led her out the back door.  Neither of them said a word as they made their way to the boat quickly.  He knew she was just as anxious to be alone together as he was.  He had a feeling this was going to be a great reconciliation.
