Chapter 29 cont'd
Weve lived together for over three years and its never been a topic of conversation. I mean, we talk like its a long term commitment and we dont talk like its ending anytime soon. I dont know, its weird. Less than a year ago he was talking about having a baby and stuff like that. Now, who knows. Once hes on tour, its all about the tour. She watched him take a bite of fish. He had grown up so much. He was a cute kid, now he was this handsome man. It made her wonder about Chris. What did he look like now? Even in high school he had a wonderful athletes body. She was able to see it when they spent time at the beach. He was a baseball player and he worked out religiously. Well, as long as you are happy. Just dont put your life plans on hold for him. She knew that was the smartest thing. She didnt want to go another five years with Nick, wake up one day and get dumped because he needed space and find herself alone at thirty with not even a prospect of marriage. So, what about you? Anyone special in your life? He laughed and immediately I knew the answer, No, the only thing that I touch on a regular basis is a scalpel. Im much too busy. I have to say though, there are a lot of intelligent, driven beautiful women in this city. Per capita, there has to be more potential wives than in any other area in the country. It was hard to believe this was the same kid who would throw water on her and Chris when they were at the beach, You sound like youre ready for marriage. He smiled, I want it but not ready at this moment. They continued to talk over dinner and she agreed to let him take her to one of his favorite bars afterwards. |
