| Walking around the roads is a real pleasure as all the people are so friendly. In the villages nearly every house is also a shop. Here are some of my pictures taken in January 2004. Rabbits for sale in the market. Some have escaped from their box. Notice the tortoise in box top right. It hardly had room to move and was being sold as a pet. Below that a food stall in Port Louis Market. Also two ladies selling shopping bags and hats in the market. A lady selling fruit at side of road. I do not know what the yellow plum size fruits are as I could not understand her. They were hard skinned but the watery fruit was delicious. A tailor at work in Gran Baie and a nearby Briani seller. Only twice was I asked for anything from anyone. I gave money to a poor begger in Port Louis and the Briani seller asked for a copy of this photo. I did not have a pen, to take his address, and on returning with one I was disappointed to find him gone. I visited a barber and show his shop. A very friendly man who gave me my first haircut in southern hemisphere.. A pity more guests in hotel do not use his services. He is a major Coca Cola outlet. Also photos of street cooking and a small Church. |
