Joan was sitting in the house waiting for her beloved husband, Robert to come home from work at 10 o�clock. She was waiting to show him the new CCTV camera she had installed for a surprise. It was a new kind that had a secret button that you could hide anywhere. In this case she had hidden it behind the picture of her husband at the bottom of the stairs. She had told him that she was going to move around the bed room which wasn�t all a lie, she had moved all of her priceless valuables, which her husband liked into the spare room where one of the four cameras are. She was waiting until half past ten or so and then got a phone call �Mrs Hall?� asked a man �Yes?� She recognised the voice at the other end of the line. It was her husband�s friend Victor who also liked her collection and whom she detested very much. �Oh�Mrs Hall�how can I say this? Your husband has been in a big crash with a bus�no� a heavy goods lorry.� �Oh no! Your joking� you�ve got to be kidding my husband�s a great driver! �I know he is but I�ve just found out my self, he�s been put into the local hospital in intensive care� The doctors said that you can�t go in to visit him tonight, but will probably be able to visit tomorrow about 9 a m.� �Oh� Ok� she said slowly and sadly. �Good Bye� �See Yea� When she said good bye she held the phone to her ear and started to cry. Then she heard two men�s voices on the other end of the phone. One was Victor and the other she recognised the voice but couldn�t remember whom it was: �So how will we get in?� said the unknown male voice on the phone �Well she�s going to see� The phones off the hook! Maybe she�� He put the phone down. Joan took no notice of it and went to bed to try to get some sleep. She did manage to get some sleep until 7 o�clock or so. She jumped out of bed and then jumped into the shower. Minutes later she was out the shower and getting dressed in her best dress. She was running down the stairs and tripped on the last step and to break her fall she pushed the picture of her husband that was on the wall to one side. She stopped and straightened it. And walked through for some toast. Once it was 8 o�clock she couldn�t wait any longer she got her coat and her bag and went to the bus station, even though the hospital was only 15 minutes away by car. Where she met Helen, her best friend. They got talking: �So where are you off to then Joan?� �I�m going to the hospital, because Robert had an accident yesterday.� �Oh right. What time would this be at?� �I don�t really know. He was due back at 10 and I got told he was in intensive care by Victor, across the way about half past.� �That�s funny� I thought I seen him with victor about here at quarter past 7 this morning.� Helen replied � No that�s impossible Victor told me all about it� Oh here�s my bus I�ll catch you later� bye� �Yeah see yea� tell Robert I�m asking for him� With that, Joan was on her way to the hospital. When she got there she asked the receptionist where Robert hall was. �Robert Hall? Let me see� I�m sorry there is no record of him being admitted.� �What! I was told that he was brought in here about 10 o�clock last night from a car accident.� �I�m sorry everyone who is brought in is registered and there is no record� would you like me to check the other hospital out side town Mrs Hall?� �Yes please� �Ok take a seat over there please and I�ll call them.� Joan sat down where the receptionist had told her. Minutes later she called Joan over. �Mrs Hall� They have no record either� �Oh Ok�What shall I do now?� ��Why don�t you go home and rest and I�ll call you if something comes up.� �Ok� Joan replied She was walking away when the receptionist called back �Mrs! Could you give me your phone number please?� After she had given her the number she got back on the bus where she met Helen. �That was quick Joan� �He�s not in there or the other one out of town� The two ladies talked all the way to Joan�s house. She said bye to Helen and went up to her front door. She was that confused She put her key in the keyhole and turned the key the wrong way. She soon released this and turned it the other way and opened the door slowly. When she walked in she saw the house had been burgled. Everything that you would have expected to be gone was lying on the floor T.V, hi-fi, video etc �Oh no� surly there�s nothing worse can happen� She went up the stairs to check on her valuables, and no surprise to her they were gone. She went down stairs and into the kitchen where her back door was ajar. She didn�t bother about shutting it just went into the living room sat down and begun to cry again. She then saw a red light flashing in the corner, it was the CCTV unit in the glass cupboard she pressed play and watched the tape. She must have hit the button behind the picture when she fell and not realised. A few minutes after she started the tape the front door was pushed slowly open �Ha-Ha you didn�t know I have installed this, DID YOU!� She stopped the tape when she could see the two burglars, Zoomed in and saw their faces� Things had just got worse She stared at the screen and saw Victor an another man� once she saw him she fainted and hit the floor with a big THUD It was none other that Robert her Husband fit and well. |
