Term Paper Requirements

SOURCES:
You will need at least five secondary sources and at least one primary source.  Each source needs to be used and cited within the paper.  Citing the source does not mean quoting, even though this is an option.  Rather, it means you have used the research and ideas of that source to construct your own original thoughts - not plagiarized!  You can have more than one primary source.  A primary source is not the book you have used the most in constructing the paper.  A primary source is a firsthand account of the person, events, etc.  Examples of primary sources could be diaries, letters, speeches, government records, eye-witness accounts and autobiographies.   You are to use no more than two internet sources from  reliable, scholarly sites. Use my web links page as a guide to find quality online information to help you.

BIBLIOGRAPHY CARDS:  You do not have to use bibliography cards, but they may help you organize your sources for future reference throughout your research.

NOTE CARDS:  Each student will have to show me AT LEAST 30 note cards throughout your research assignment.  This is to ensure that work is being conducted in a timely manner.  You will probably have an end total of 50 or more note cards.

PAPER:  Please adhere to the APA format for writing your paper.  Refer to my web links page for more information to help you.  Start by downloading this Microsoft Word APA-style template as a starting point for your paper.

The paper should be 8-10 typed, double-spaced pages  (approximately 250-275 words per typed page utilizing 12 point ARIAL font, black ink, 1 inch margin on the top, bottom, and left and right sides), and it should include the following parts:

 1.  Title Page
 2.  Outline
 3.  Contents of paper should include an introduction page, body pages, and conclusion.
 4.  Endnote Page or footnotes
 5.  References

It is important to point out that the 8-10 pages of text do not include the "title page," "outline," and "references." It is 8-10 pages of text as a MINIMUM required length. If you are using footnotes, the content of the footnotes are not calculated into the 8-10 pages of content.

TENTATIVE DUE DATES:

November 23--List of five secondary sources and one primary source -- 10 points.
(Utilize the APA format for all source references.)

January 06 --30 note cards -- 15 points.

February 03--Outline -- 25 points.

March 03 --final paper due -- 150 points.
(Utilize the APA format for all sections of the paper.
Refer to my web links page for more information to help you.)

All assignments are required to be turned in at the beginning of class - no exceptions!  If the paper is turned in after your scheduled class it is late and will be penalized accordingly-- Eight points for each class period. If the paper is a day late, a letter grade will be deducted from the paper - after all, you have several months to complete the assignment!
