RESOLUTION ON A STATE INCOME TAX

WHEREAS, our state sales tax is one of the highest in the nation; and

WHEREAS, a state income tax is unnecessary and unacceptable to the citizens of Texas; and

WHEREAS, state government must live within a budget by cutting waste and expenditures; and

WHEREAS, research shows that states imposing income taxes experience massive increases in government spending; and

WHEREAS, a state income tax will discourage the re-location of corporations and job seekers from states with an income tax, resulting in a slowing of economic growth; and

WHEREAS, a state income tax will be deceptively earmarked for education; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED that the Republican Party in the above-named precinct opposes a state income tax.

The foregoing resolution was properly submitted in triplicate and was adopted by the Republican voters in the above-referenced precinct in convention on Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
